Jay Graham has left Tennessee to go to FSU

Blind Tennessee fans say a lack of diversity on the staff doesn't matter. The real world disagrees. It has nothing to do with playing the race card or whatever people call it. It's just reality...a place our fanbase has dared to venture for sometime.

Nothing we don't know, but thought I'd pass this along. I've talked to a few players, and they say things like this is what is keeping Tennessee from "rising to the top" or landing top recruits. A new position coach almost every year they have been in school for every guy currently on the team. Serious lack of stability in every area of the team.

This is a good post. I was thinking this morning how bad I feel for Marlon Lane and Rajion Neal. They've had no RB coach, Jay Graham, now some other dude will march in. Both were big time backs out of HS who have basically been crucified by our fanbase with total disregard to how they've been undercoached up till this past year. All we hear is how we need a big time back, but it ain't gonna happen if we can't keep coaches.

Except as stated earlier the two undefeated BCS teams of last year have 2 out of 12 that aren't white. Both have no issues recruiting. That's not the issue. It's the caliber of coach prestige. We haven't had a coach that intimates people by his presence since Fulmer.

Bama and Ohio State have 2 coaches out of a staff of about 12 who are black.

It hasn't hurt Meyer or Saban in the slightest. While I don't dismiss that it carries some significance, kids only care about who can get me to the league and who can do it the fastest.

UA actually has 3(Williams, Pumph, Burns) but I do agree it really has to do with ability to get to the NFL.

The only coach that I have seen if any has some significance is with Trooper, but most seem to gravitate to him. But he can only recruit because I have yet seen or heard anything that would suggest he develops player.

You are uninformed.

Severely uninformed.

He had two 1,000 yard rushers in one season here.

He got Robert Meachem a first round pick.

I agree that for us, it may not seem imperative but outside of Knoxville it damn sure is.

and it used against us in recruitiing.

we are on a un-even playing field right now in the SEC, in more than one way, and the diversity of the staff is one.

Those two teams also have very fertile instate recruiting grounds with arguably the most loyalty to their schools from the instate kids. You might not think it matters. But I'm black and not racist, and I think it very much matters. On the flip side I don't think an all black staff would be good. That's just my opinion.

By the way, it was also noted that its been used against us in recruiting. Did you forget to mention that? Or did it not fit your argument?

sad thing about our fanbase is that there ARE Jones haters. Hasn't been on the job 3 months or coached 1 snap of football, game or practice and some have already deemed him a failure.

I don't have to lick a turd to know it tastes like crap. Only question in my mind is whether CBJ can make it through 3 seasons.

The coach needs to bring in his own staff that he is comfortable with. On paper, Dooley(his first 2 years) and Kiffin both had great staffs. Look where that has gotten them.

Brady Hoke, on the other hand, brought in a staff he trusted. Out of Brady Hoke's whole staff, only 3 didn't come from San Diego State. Greg Mattison came from the Ravens, and the other 2 came from non bcs schools. I would have loved to see how that staff would have been percieved by vol fans.

I have no idea if CBJ will get it done or not, but his best chance is getting staff members he trusts and members that understand his philosphy.

He did well with WRs and RBs here.

I should have clarified that to mean while at AU. His ability there was to recruit and prior to that I really never followed his career. I do remember him at OSU and believe he coached Dez there. But again I was talking about AU his recent stint which he was great on the recruiting trail and seemed to relate to recruits but he did not seem to have the impact on the field there.

Fair point. Having a bad QB after Cam might have been the cause, but it's fair to wonder. I think his coaching is adequate considering his recruiting ability is elite, and we have one proven recruiter on our whole staff.
