Jay Graham has left Tennessee to go to FSU

I am just confused on one thing. Where (outside of what is perpetuated on message boards) is the evidence that JG was a superstar recruiter. He was at SCarolina for 3 years and they got Lattimore, but I don't think he was the lead recruiter for him since he signed right after his JG's first season there. Also, he was an instate kid and that was a big factor in his recruitmen. He was the lead recruiter on North, a North Carolina kid where JG has great connections due to his being from there.

Who else has he been responsible for recruiting-wise?

I think the sting of him leaving has more to do with him being a former player. If not, we would have already moved on from this.

Personally, got to wish the best for him.

Professionally, I hope FSU loses every game........,except when they play the Gators

we have to have an exceptional recruiter. This hire and staff have no history of doing it an any level remotely close to exceptional. It shows no understanding on the part of our administration or a pure default hire. Either way, everyone involved needs to be removed from decision making at UT.

Yeah, because firing people always fixes the problem.

roy manning is already on his way from N.illinois

He better not be, if CBJ his another one of his current or former buddies I'm giving up on the next few years. We need a big time name or an allstar recruiter not another "comfortable"or knows the system coach.

I said the same thing. Where are his great recruits? He got North but missed on every RB. We took Lee as a last second pick up. If he was so good, then where is our Yeldon or Green? Good luck to him and I hope he is terrible wherever he goes. If he comes back, then I hope he does good.

I agree! I've been a supporter of CBJ so far but this is a hire he better get right. Not a loyalty hire or buddy system crap. This has to be a big time hire! Trooper Taylor or a big name NFL guy is the only logical answer IMO.

A big name? How many programs hire big name position coaches? How's about we hire a good coach and recruiter?

Jay Graham is the kind of coach we should never lose. He is a former Vol, and generally considered our best recruiter. A top-notch football program running on all cylinders would never let a guy like that get away.

I believe this is all on the AD, or more to the point, Cheek limiting what the AD is allowed to do.

CBJ has done very little wrong at this point, but at this point, he's on a pace to be on the hottest coaching seat around a year from now.

Agree with you about Cheek- we all know he sucks. But being an assistant coach isn't indentured servitude. Reports were that he was getting a $35k raise and CBJ offered up to $300k to keep him. But ultimately if he wants to go, he's gonna go. And I really can't believe you wrote CBJs on pace to be on the hottest coaching seat in 1 year. Why?

Agree this hire is critical but I don't agree about getting a "big name or nfl guy". I would rather steal a top recruiter from a rival who has relationships with our top target recruits if possible. Don't think CBJ should or can afford to bring in a Cincy guy. Wouldn't be well received or smart.

We couldn't get Tee back and now we lose Graham. Two guys that deep down I believe love UT. Something is still rotten over there.

^^^^I have been SCREAMING this for some time now, but everyone just keeps saying "Butch get's it"

If we don't get our head out of the sand soon, we will be looking up to Vandy and calling out their coach like they are a real rivalry...........O Sorry, we are already there

Please note I said "coach." Surely you saw what he did with our RBs last year. Turned a dismal, unproductive group in 2011 into a relatively effective ground attack last year.

I honestly don't know how you can stand by this as a good thing for our program. Especially considering the unknowns that the rest of our staff brings. You're usually one of the reasonable ones too...

I think Pittman had as much to do with our running game producing last year as Jay did if not more.If Jay had not played at Tn then people wouldn't be so in love with him. His signature recruit is Lattimore and Lattimore was going to USCe regardless of Jay. But he couldn't land a big time RB at Tn and didn't land one after Lattimore at South Carolina.
But maybe BJ twitter needs to be flooded with Trooper to be hired. Then next Feb Tn will land a top 5-10 class.

This is what the Jones haters have been waiting for.

If it wasn't this they would find something else. They've been riding the coach speak "best staff in america" thing pretty hard til now. At least wait and let the man and his staff coach a game before you decree him the worst coach in division 1

Yeah, like two guys who don't love the Vols as much as many fans. Would you coach Tennessee even if the HC was someone you didn't get a long with?

Hell yes you would. So would I. The enormous paycheck would help, too.

Luckily, CBJ seems to be a quality man with high standards for his coaches, team, and family. CJG has had 8 jobs in 13 years. Maybe the guy who actually left is the one to blame.
