Jay Graham has left Tennessee to go to FSU

yeah it wasnt our OL at all

Some of it was. Then when Graham coached them up, the chemistry between the line and backs improved. At the end of the day the backs just weren't very good in '11. The difference between the RB play in 2011 and 2012 was significant.

Scout.com: Jones has vacancy to fill

Fans can expect the Vols and coach Jones to act quickly given the timetable before the opening of spring practice. One name to keep in mind is former Cincinnati running backs coach Roy Manning. A former Michigan Wolverine, Manning spent four seasons in the NFL with various teams before returning to the college game in the coaching ranks.

CBJ had a plan but how often do things really go according to your plan. S*** happens and you have to adjust on the fly. Part of being a leader is dealing with adversity. Do you let it get you down or do you take it for what it is and use the opportunity to make lemonade. CJG is gone and so crying about it won't help. Let CBJ do his leadership thing and bring in the next guy. Then we should support him until he gives you reasons not to. GBO VFL

More just based off what he has done his entire career, really has not been at Tennessee long enough to base anything off of. Not saying Graham wasn't the best though, just think you could make an argument for either.

Jones has blown the whole "Best staff in the country" BS . I'm not pleased Jones didn't go after some recruiters instead of keeping his yes sir men around from Cincy. This staff will get spanked In the SEC!

CJG held the last class together and was responsible for North, Lee, and keeping Maybin etc. Being the 2nd to last in pay on the staff and being a former player is a slap in the face. Call it what you want. He deserved better compensation that he was geting. I know the timing isn't good, but when is it ever when you lose a coach. Good luck to him in all he does.

Gruden 2013. We should just disband the program till we get Gruden. I mean it would make Volnation happy. We hire a coach that was winning at a high level in his conference and he is a crappy second tier coach to you people.

we have to have an exceptional recruiter. This hire and staff have no history of doing it an any level remotely close to exceptional. It shows no understanding on the part of our administration or a pure default hire. Either way, everyone involved needs to be removed from decision making at UT.

I can't disagree with this assessment. CJG lands our best recruit in North and is 2nd to last in pay to a bunch of Cincy assistants who've never recruitied at this level? I wish CJG was still here but I ain't mad at him. I wish him continued success at FSU.

JMO but something on the hill still isn't right. We can keep sputtering along or we can genuinely clean house within our administion. I don't know what the specific problem is but I can tell a poorly run business when I see one. :ermm:

Larry Porter.

Yep, thought of his name earlier. Might as well try and get him on the whole Mack Brown won't be at texas after next year. Of course that would require us paying him what he is worth

Someone on the board mentioned Graham potentially getting upset about compensation months ago and ppl laughed and ridiculed him. Can't remember who it was tho.

If you're thinking represents the prevailing mentality at UT, I'd expect UT to never attract top coaches. Are there questions? Of course. But to not even give him a 'down' to coach is ridiculous. Bringing in a core staff for whom you already have a good working relationship makes sense. I feel we are fortunate to attract a 'winning coach' after these last 5 years or so. Now, we need to give him the time to make this work.

For the next rb coach though, I would like to see someone with strong experience recruiting in the South. I'm cautiously optimistic going forward with an enthusiastic coach and current staff.

Jay Graham is the kind of coach we should never lose. He is a former Vol, and generally considered our best recruiter. A top-notch football program running on all cylinders would never let a guy like that get away.

I believe this is all on the AD, or more to the point, Cheek limiting what the AD is allowed to do.

CBJ has done very little wrong at this point, but at this point, he's on a pace to be on the hottest coaching seat around a year from now.
