'14 TN DB Todd Kelly Jr. (UT Signee 2/5/14)

Haha TKjr would not start at TN as a high school junior. I don't care about the two YouTube videos you've seen, that's asinine

You'll see why I say what I say. TKjr. is an extremely smart player. In the secondary talent and instincts will take over after being attacked so much as you say. Our talent on the backend isn't good so it would be hard to keep kids like Tabor, TKjr, and Jabril Peppers off the field at UT. And they are good enough to at the least compete right now.

Kids like TKjr would be very hard to keep off the field anywhere as a true freshman. Milliner was a starter by his 3rd game his freshman year and G Smith this year showed he could live up to expectations.

He would get attacked early on alot but as you said he would adjust quickly and lock in that spot with no doubts by the end of the season.

TKjr. is doing something a lot of college safeties don't do til their junior years. He's actually reading his keys in both phases(run and pass). Couple that with his athletcism and you've got an impact player. Besides him playing deep you can drop him in the box he can take on and defeat blocks like a LB is supposed to. He's very very well coached and his athleticism is off the charts. I don't know what Escape Goat is talking about with this kid getting clowned. Guys like Jelani Jenkins and the DT from Louisville(Okoye I think was his name) were young coming into college and it didn't bother them.

Give me a reason why he wouldn't? If he could change classification right now and be a graduating senior why couldn't he play right now? Give me a legit reason.......

He'd be 16 years old going against 20-22 year old guys that have been in college S&C programs for 3-5 years.

Did it stop Jelani Jenkins at Florida? I know Amobi was 16 in college as a freshman playing for Louisville. TKjr. isn't a typical 16 year old guy. Some people are blessed much more than others and this kid is one of those guys. Honey Badger was tiny making plays his first year at LSU.

Also, I wouldn't put a whole lot of stock in his film. He's playing against Knoxville teams.

I think TK is a GREAT player. But even great players have an adjustment period.

You aware of his competition level?
You aware of the fact that you hype the newest shiniest toy as a "starter from Day One" and the "type of athlete TN needs to get back to the top" every recruiting cycle replacing whoever we just signed as someone you proclaimed as a Day One starter?

TKjr is very athletic. TKjr is a very good prospect. I like him and his game a lot. #1 on my board for this class. There is a huge adjustment period from small high school ball to the SEC. To assume he could start Day One is a stretch. To assume he could skip a year of high school and do it is, like I said, asinine.

Who all do I hype as Day 1 starters? Also what 16 year olds do I say could start in college on a regular basis? And with the talent on our team why do you think I say these kids can play Day 1 here? Why wouldn't I say this about the Berry Bros. or some of the other legacies? Also ask yourself this do you think this kid could play as well as Byron Moore? Or if he's worse than #17 at safety? Hell neither one even take good angles and #3 doesn't support the run well at all.

Now do you think this kid doesn't workout with NFL players in the offseason seeing who his dad is? With the connections he has I'm pretty sure he's been playing against better competition than the HS players he's dealt with during the season.

I will probably be blasted for this analogy, but he has likely been exposed to more from a football knowledge standpoint then most juniors in high school. Much like Peyton Manning was coming out of high school. Peyton was able to start as a freshman. He had many of the tools and more knowledge Than a lot of college sophomores. Did he make many many freshman mistakes? Yes he did. Does not mean he was not very far advanced for a freshmen either.

I can see TK Junior having a similar experience. I am sure that his dad has had him exposed to many many experiences that your average high school football player does not get access to.

Thank you sir, I said he could start not dominate. But his game is very advanced overall for a player at his age. He's able to do things other kids learn very late in school. He's also a very hard worker besides being a very smart player which is why I say what I say about the kid. Then couple what we're working with on the backend as of now he could start. JRM and Johnson will be good players no doubt but he's on their level right now as a player IMO. TKjr. has an athleticism advantage over anybody in our secondary right now. And that's not a slight at them but the kid is special.

How old was PM when he started as a frost? 16? I think not.

Was not my point, Peyton Manning most likely could have made many of the college level throws and even reads of defense as a high school junior. Archie Manning had Peyton throwing to Saints wide receivers and against Saints DBs while he was in high school. So as a high school junior, he could Complete passes against NFL defensive players, but could not against college players? Should he have started in college at age 16? No, but he could have played against that level of competition.

I believe that is the point being made here about TK Junior. He has the ability to play in college even while in high school. However he should not likely be allowed to do it. Totally different concepts there.

"I'm trying to get to every school to narrow it down," Kelly said.

On OSU

"It was cool to talk to Coach Meyer," Kelly said. "He's real cool. I went there for the Nebraska game. But this was the first time I got to learn about the school and tour the campus."

On Clemson

"It was good," he said. "I enjoyed it. I got to spend a lot of time with the coaches and everything. It was nice. I had been there for the Maryland game. This was better just because I got to see what the school was about and everything like that. I got to learn about the academics. I do [have a strong interest in Clemson]. I'm going to consider them most likely until my top school comes out."

On Tennessee.

"I talk to all the coaches there," Kelly said. "I don't really have one guy. They're all recruiting me. I'm expecting them to be over my shoulder the whole time I'm there. I'll see what they have planned for me."

At this time, Kelly declined to say which of his most recent visits stood out.

"Once I visit everyone, I'll weigh them out and rank the visits," he said.
