'15 JUCO RB Alvin Kamara (UT commit 6/21/14)

If we miss on a bigtime RB there are a number of quality backs we will still get.

If we miss on lawson its very unlikely we get any other recruit anywhere close to fill that loss.

If we miss on bell same thing. Nothing close to fill that void.

That's why the RB need isn't at the top of the list IMO.

Smith was gone when Spurrier got there.

Smith said he was a little hurt that Spurrier didn't even ask him to stay for his senior year. That was Spurrier back in the day though. He knew he could win with anyone running an occasional draw play that was wide ass open.

So what you are saying is you are looking at the current recruits and going by who you think is the best overall right now? You think someone like Lawson will have a greater impact than a stud RB? Lawson would have to be Clowney level for me to agree with that. I would take a RB who can get 100+ yards a game, take over a game late and carry an offense over a kid who might get a sack or generate some pressure. Lawson is good and he is # 2 on my list but he wont have the impact on a game like a true RB can, unless he is Clowney 2.0.

Not sure I ever said we are 1 RB from championship level. Looking again. Nope.

That's the way I see it. What will have us competing again, therefore the biggest need. Neal will start no matter who we sign IMO

The absolute biggest needs are all on D. If our QB play next year proves to be average or below next yr, it doesn't matter what RB we have or sign. We need a reliable Defense period.

I wish I could blame him for going to Bama, but I can't. They are obviously on top of the College football world right now. And a player of his talent won't see the bench for long, if at all.

There is not one player on the board on defense that fits that need.

If Nkemdiche was a legitimate shot, he would be my #1.

Lawson is a close #2 but for me, one of the elite RBs has to be at the top.

With inexperience at WR we should rely more on the running game next year. An elite back would be nice, where we can eat some clock and keep the D off the field more.

Your missing my entire point.

Lets assume green is a 100yd a game back. My point is our backup plan is very capable of being close to that as well.

Lawson is a double digit sack potential guy with his backup plan being no where close to that.

Similar with bell.

It's all about who we will get if we don't get plan A and our RB plan B's aren't bad at all.

A big bruiser, between the tackles type back may not be all that necessary with the CBJ offence. A quick shifty type back may be all he needs. Guess we'll see.

Not really

A commitment to run the ball with Hardesty paid huge dividends in the 2009 season with J. Crompton at QB and 2 walk-ons on the OLine. Just how much more evidence do we need? Sure our D was better then, but they also didn't stay on the field all the time because we had a 1400 yd RB who could eat up clock and keep the chains moving.

We haven't been consistent in the backfield since then--and people have just forgotten how important it really is. And please don't even try to tell me how good Poole was...

We may actually need LBs more than we need RBs right now....but having a stud RB is a very close second...JMO...:salute:

We need both. Being able to run the ball takes pressure of the D. Having a good D gets the O the ball in favorable field position and takes pressure off the O not having to put up huge numbers ala this past year. To win in this league you need both.

MZTERRY we need your opinion of all this Bama Uga talk. She has said many times dont believe what you hear he was a smart kid and choose the school who best fit him, but she would back Kamara on his decision Saying we have NO shot is odd. There is hope.

Guys, seriously it will not be the end of the world if we miss out on both Kamara and Green. I agree we do need talented RB's, but the ones we have and can still possible get this year are serviceable in this offense, with this OL especially.

I would like for both Green and Kamara to be Vols, but they are down my list a little. I want the following in this order:

1. Lawson (as good as chance as anybody to land him)
2. Foster (if we really have a chance)
3. Bell/North (we need them both equally)
4. Jason Carr (we really do need defensive help, and it starts up front)
5. Combination of 2 RB's out of Green, Kamara, Kemp, Ford, Barber
6. Rod Crayton (beast with a chip on his shoulder)

Remember, if we land one of the big elite backs, it may hurt our chances with Hurd next year, if he remains a RB. We need players at all phases, I just don't think RB is No. 1 priority this year.

If we got Lawson, I would switch your #4 and #5. Otherwise I agree with your list.

Why? Shes going to say that you shouldnt believe anything and he will make the best decision for him just like she has 1 meeelion times before. She wont tip her hand in anyway, Jasons recruitment will show you that. She went til the end denying everything. She understands this process and knows its his to put out there and not hers.
