'13 CA TE Woody Quinn (UT signee)

No problem Bruin...I get your anxiety on this one...and I try my best not to think every lower rated guy we offer is a "diamond in the rough"...but I see it with this guy

I am trying to warm up to him. Looks like I have no choice and a welcome post is coming!!

Lol. As you can tell volleyball isn't on my radar so I have no idea the height of the net

Just think Jimmy Graham. I fully understand the staff's interest in him as has been pointed out with Kelce. Jones' O has already been set up to run a guy like him on streaks and short routes underneath. You honestly expect an LB or even a safety to cover him adequately? No way. Blocking techniques can be taught quickly to someone this athletic with this size. Meanwhile you can utilize him immediately with pass catching. Dude's a weapon in the making IMO.

Quinn is an athlete. If he has 3 to play 3, I definitely would prefer him over Vandenburg. His upside is HUGE!

Jimmy Graham, Tony Gonzalez, and Antonio Gates are 3 of the best TEs in the NFL. All converted from other sports.

Jimmy Graham was a proven athletic freak who played basketball his entire life. I'm like VOTP, I haven't seen any film of this dude just wrecking the volleyball court. I'm not a volleyball expert. I have no idea how athletic you have to be in order to play volleyball. I'm sure they can jump, but the courts are pretty small (thus wouldn't require a ton of agile movement).

Jimmy Graham is the first guy that I thought of when we made this offer, but I'm not going to fool myself. The main reason I won't is because I haven't seen any film on this guy volleyball or football.

I think we should just all Google for Volleyball information.

Here's a tidbit:

Woody Quinn is the Boy's Volleyball Athlete of the Week

"Quinn helped the Tartans improve to 8-0 in Academy League play with a pair of victories this week. In three games for the week, Quinn totaled 35 kills, 7 blocks and 4 aces."

Don't know what it means but 35 kills sounds badass lol

I think a "kill" is like when you spike the ball for a point. That could be completely wrong. My experience of volleyball is limited to watching some during the olympics and P.E. class many years ago.

All in all, I'd feel 100 times better about this pickup than I would Cody Clay. CBJ knows a lot about the TE position, and he obviously sees something in this guy that he didn't see elsewhere. Woody sounds like a great athlete. I'll be happy with a commit here.

Does our seemingly good momentum with aj Jackson change our willingness to accept this commitment?

I agree but be careful there will be a mass attack on any poster that thinks he isn't a 100per take.

At the time, C. Jackson was our only option at a HS TE, and a good option to have. However, now that AJ Jackson is in play, I don't think anyone would argue that he's a take.

At the time, C. Jackson was our HS TE, and that wasn't going to change based on reports.

Now we are finally agreeing. And my point a few days ago was that elders trip to see Jackson was to let him know he may not fit into our needs. His quote proved that was the message relayed. If we get an upgrade he will not be apart of the class.

Wasn't a huge matchup problem for his opponents this season. 15 catches for the entire year.

Sometimes I think you guys(not directly at you nash) like every single player that has a page in this formum. They all can't be the guys we need!
And some of you guys overly criticize every recruit that you don't know. You stare at the offer list and if Al isn't one of the schools u question it. Its one thing to analyze and discuss a recruit its another thing to automatically put down a Guy because u know nothing about him.

Isn't C. Jackson also rumored to have some grade concerns?

Offer lists say alot about how a recruit is viewed. Most on this board could not evaluate a football player from a swimmer. The offer lists are not compiled by folks on this board. If big time school are not offering, people have alot of reasons to question the talent of a recruit or if he could play here. JMO

I don't know how many of you guys watched the Pac 10 in the late nineties, but there was a guy by the name of Danny Farmer who dominated for UCLA as a receiver and he was a big time volleyball player. Got drafted into the NFL to the Steelers I believe and unfortunately did not amount to much. Quinn reminds me of him. Farmer made the QB Cade McNown a top 15 pick. Volleyball players have hops and are pretty athletic. Will that translate in this case? I hope so if we want him.

Just because a volleyball playerin the nineties didn't pan out in the pros doesn't mean the next volleyball/ football player will have the same career. That makes no sense.

Perhaps a more intelligent post is needed regarding this kids offer list. Since you brought up the offer list what should we learn from it???

I definitely agree with your last statement. It is all going to depend. C. Jackson has never been on campus. He is planning on OVing soon.
