'13 GA DE Carl Lawson (Auburn commit)

When did this change? I thought I read earlier this week the coaches had reached out to him and everything seemed good.

Hm. I thought I had read the exact opposite. It could have very well changed. I was just speculating based on what I heard a while ago. It may have changed since then. Everything is very fluid right now.

Okay, just went back to his thread. Basically, CBJ has contacted him, but not sure whether things or good or bad. Either way, he has begun to set up other visits to other schools, and it doesn't seem like he would be a terrific fit in this system. Would not be shocked at all if he was not a part of this class.

Kid plays a lot like Dwight Freeney to me. Just a super charger off the edge.

He does. And the way Cincy used Giordano and Stewart is very similar to what Dungy was doing with the Indianapolis Colts. 1-gapping and speed-to-power. Flop the ends randomly. The scheme would benefit Lawson’s skill-set perfectly.

Good point about the way Cincy uses their ends. Not only would the scheme benefit Lawson, but it would also benefit my enjoyment in watching Tennessee football on Saturdays.

Lawson's greatest contribution next year might not be seen in the number of sacks he gets, but in the number of sacks the D gets as a unit. If you have one great pass rusher who demands a double team or at least a back/TE chipping it can free up another DE, DT, or blitzing LB/S to get the pressure or the sack, and I think Lawson can give UT that.

Taking OCI's comparison to Freeney....Robert Mathis has benefited greatly from playing across from Freeney as long as he has. When Freeney has been out Mathis' production has gone down because an opponent can focus on him, instead of Freeney.

I think Lawson can make J. Smith, Williams, Couch, McCullers, etc. all much better players if he decides to come to UT.

Lawson and Barber would be EPIC!

Isn't Barber committed to Ole Miss? They both go to the same high school. Hasn't there been some rumors that Lawson would end up there? Hopefully they'll both come here but I thought Barber was solid to Ole Miss.

I think we really have a solid shot here. Lawson is probably pretty familiar with Thigpen and Martinez, plus recruits seem to buy in to what CBJ is selling. I guess we won't know for sure until signing day though.

When AU was in great shape during the summer the only other school he talked about was UT. Even some speculation he may give UT an OV because his personal trainer is a former UT alum and player. So yes UT has a shot. One the one thing right now is who has the better DL coach because one fo the AU sites believe that may be the only way they hold onto Lawson.

If you had a gun to your head and had to say would they commit or not. You would say no.

I want them to commit, I would love for them to commit. But there is absolutely 0 evidence saying they're coming here.

It's not being a negavol, it's being smart.

I'd much rather think they weren't coming, and be pleasantly surprised. Than to go against all logical evidence, and build them up in my mind, expect a commitment, and then get upset when they don't.

:bump3:

For you evaluators... How does this guy compare to Clowney?

Clowney is a true freak. Clowney can bull rush, use the swim move, or just run right around you. Clowney has great length that can be used to tip passes or just reach and knock the ball out from the QB as he is running by.

Last year was the Andrew Luck sweepstakes... next year will be the Jadeveon Clowney sweepstakes.

Lawson is a monster in his own right. He has dominated camps all year. I heard Tom Luginbill compare him to Daquan Bowers (besides the injuries).... I really hope he signs with UT. I'm pulling for Butch and this would be the 1st good stamp down on this recruiting class.

good lord i just now watched his highlights for first time. monster. I have been holding out to not get my hopes up but i took a peek and HOLY SH$(

That was BB that made the comparison. No biggie, just saying.
