Rivals is bogus

Why? How? I thought they would be smart enough to know this doesn't make logical sense....

Surely they don't think they are really ranked #11 in the country and will end up #11 in real life.......

They probably think it's a toss up as to who will win the east next year between vandy, sc, florida and georgia.

...and yet that doesn't change the fact that Vanderbilt was CONSIDERABLY better than us just LAST MONTH.

While we are considering things, lets consider this was arguably UT worst team ever. Especially on defense. let's also consider that UT quit that night in Nashville. Woke up to a fired head coach. Let's consider things!!

I dont care how many they won or lost in your life time.
You are typically as good as the last time you played and Vandy embarrassed our Vols and Franklin has out-recruited DD the past 2 years. That is where we stand hopefully Butch can bail us out.

Vandy has not out-recruited DD. That is a lie. DD is 2-1 against Vandy and 1-1 against Franklin. Next.

I will bet you 500.00 that this current committed Vandybuilt class will never beat UT. How about that??

I don't make stupid wagers on the internet. Or in real life for that matter.

I hope we beat vandy every time we play them. Right now they have a better class lined up, that is all.

This is a joke and since I'm bashing rivals, I will use their logic.

2012 February signing classes:
UT ranked #17
VU ranked #29

2011 February signing classes:
UT ranked #13
VU ranked #70

^^read the above^^

still think rivals rankings matter? My point proven!!

They do? How? How do they have a better class lined up?

They have (2) 4 stars and we have (5) 4 stars. Count them.....

If they don't matter, why get upset by them?

Why even look at them?

How would you determine if this class from vandy beats ut's class on the field considering different players start playing at different times. So would it be if they beat us anytime in the next 5 years because thats the only way you could actually place that bet without it getting REALLY subjective. I mean some kids will start as FR and only play 3 years, some will redshirt at some point and some won't ever start and some will not even make it more than a year on the team.

I never said to consider anything. Vanderbilt demolished UT just last month. That's a fact. There is nothing to consider.

For every 3 * kid who becomes a stud there are HUNDREDS of 3* kids who are barely role players.

I'm not asking you to take my word for it. Just check out the team rankings for ESPN, Rivals, Scout, and 247.

If you weren't being so surly and belligerent you could maybe be reasoned with.

Law of averages are on your side if you recruit all 5*'s that you have a good team. The argument that a 3* might be a great player is correct, but as you said, not every time. And in the last decade, no many times.

Rivals has become garbage IMO. I stick with one method only. I simply see who else is recruiting the player. If UMass or Southern Alabama is their best offer well you can do the math on whether you think he's SEC material. Same goes for a guy that has offers from LSU, OSU, ND, Fl, Bama etc. When other great programs want the same player you want then you know you are probably in on someone with some good talent and potential. 247 is the best site IMO if you just have to see star ratings etc. I'd still stick to the method of seeing who else has offered at the end of the day tho.

What recruiting service are you basing this on? Rivals had our 2012 class at 17th and Vandy's at 29th.

All that matters is that last game. We're Vandy's ho - plain and simple. History's for losers - the Mongols, Arabs, etc. all used to be great.

For sanity's sake (if that matters), the rankings are based on the top 20 recruits. Vandy has 20 to use. UT does not. That makes them higher just on numbers. When all are signed, sealed, and delivered it will likely change quite a bit.

Rivals is not what is used to be because most of their staff joined 24/7 Sports. Star ratings are deceiving anyway. The guys evaluating players are not coaches and they don't look at players fitting into a certain team's schemes. They base their rankings on a player's measurables such as height, weight, and 40 time along with which schools offer scholarships and who does well at camps. Some kids don't attend Elite 11, Under Armour, and Nike camps so they are rated as high. Coaches see guys at school camps and get a feel for coach ability and heart. It is always good to have a one or two 5* players though.

I've been thinking about this a lot since Lemond Johnson committed.. And I was thinking if you can give out as many offers as you want, why not throw a couple offers at some kids that have talent, but you can see something in them that may hold them back, to kinda lure one of your rivals to try and go after them.
