If Butch Jones is hired it could get real ugly far as attendance and morale. I just say bring Phil back over Butch couldn't be worse.

Its gotta be Gruden or Fired NFL coach. Hart has got to go that direction. If we go after Sweeny or Tommy Bowden, Hart seriously needs to be gone.

It needs to be the Grude, but I don't hate Dabo either. Just don't think he would come. He's got a passionate fan base in Clemson.

First post here. I've been telling everyone for weeks it's Gruden. But I do have one lingering question I hope to get some feedback on: Why would Gruden want to take a job that a bunch of middle tier coaches have turned down? His reputation means everything to him and he's an egomaniac. It seems like he would only want a job that was universally known to be the best? Does accepting the TN job make him look like he settled for a job?

Our current position in this search is that we couldnt get any lower which in my humble opinion represents the perfect time for a major player to sweep in to save the day.
Like a phoenix from the ashes.
As an egomanic this should be attractive...provides one hell of an entrance!
All in Gruden!

Our current state also affords a plausible excuse why to pay him so much money and to lighten the academic standard that has been hobbling the program...fwiw

Hargis isn't done yet. Y4B got it right, but was maybe a little premature with it.

When all is said and done, A LOT of people are going to owe Hargis an apology, and he should win some writer awards......

If Hart needs excuses, we got the wrong man at AD. If it is the case that he relied on Gruden, and Gruden fell through, that is Hart's fault. He should have seen what has happened to other teams in the NFL and college that have courted CJG and had someone lined up.

Arkansas has been speaking with Bielema since September. If Hart didn't realize we needed to make a change, or at the least explore options since Kentucky 2011, then Hart needs to step down.

Give me Jeremy Foley at Florida or another high powered AD and this deal is done. Not saying it's Gruden because I am not privy to what went on and what mucked the deal up, but a competent AD would have had a deal in place with a high profile coach. It's becoming obvious that Dave Hart is the Derick Dooley of ADs. He is in way over his head. We should have went and got a competent AD, not a Alabuba graduate that was fired from Florida state that had never made a hire of this magnatude. In my opion Haslem and the big boys that have big business experience, need to step in and take over this process. It is my belief that Hart mucked this Gruden deal up some way. He stuck his chest out and said "G ouut of my way, this is my hire." This is coming back to haunt him. He should have let the boosters do there thing and took the credit for it istead of trying to assert his authority. JMHO

Here's an idea, do you guys think it's plausible at all?

Assume that the UTAD decided they wanted Petrino. They knew it would be a very controversial hire among the UT fan and donor base. Then, when the situation looked its bleakest, they announce a back-end loaded deal with Petrino with a strong morals clause and a huge buyout. That would certainly quiet the rumblings about his personal failings.

I agree. we would be better with an interim, like Chaney then going to a Dooley like hire.

I gotta believe that Peyton Manning, Charles Davis, all the greats from Tennessee's past care more than enough to have a voice in putting this parade of clowns to an end!

So, when do they, along with the Haslams, and the other big name boosters tell Hart to get the **** out, and get this thing done the right way?:crossfingers::crossfingers:

I don't think the AD was testing the waters at all. I believe that if the AD got one of the other candidates at the price he wanted (or was able) to pay, the PC would be done, and we'd have a coach.

I think a lot of confidence shown by the OGs on here this week was a combination of some knowledge and some hope. Boosters are connected. They knew the other candidates. They know fellow boosters at those schools. Money people know money people. The would have had a very real sense of the offer the UT AD would have been capable of making as well as some sense of the likelihood of them taking it.

This is my guess why the "so close you will want to puke" comment popped up. I think there was at least some concern as to the likelihood of LU matching us for Strong or the possibility he might take the job anyway because it was in the SEC.

I understand what your saying, but it still amounts to (effectively) reverse collusion. My booster calls your booster and says our AD can afford to offer up to x amount, and if your guy says yes, we'll hire him. But we really don't want him, so how 'bout you match that number or go a little higher and we'll both be happy. That's manipulating "market" rates for an outcome which is collusion (which is definitely unethical, if not illegal). I'm not suggesting this isn't what happened. I just find it very unsettling that it could have been "played" this way.

Thanks Boomer_vol for everything. This has been the best ride of my (our) lives. I feel like we are at the end of "The Dark Knight" on sep boats getting ready to blow each other up!!

You are keeping most of us sane. THANK YOU.

How premature... as in nothing today, something tomorrow, or next week?

Shields are holding, but the attackers will eventually break through.

It should have been yesterday IMO.

Does Freak have a PayPal account connected to this site? If so we should all chip in some cash to help him keep this site up and running. If he doesn't have one, he needs one.

This place has been great over the last few weeks and is way better than the pay sites.

See all the banner ads that pop up on this site? I doubt that Freak is making a ton of money, but with over a million visitors last week, I'm pretty sure he's getting paid.
