First post here. I've been telling everyone for weeks it's Gruden. But I do have one lingering question I hope to get some feedback on: Why would Gruden want to take a job that a bunch of middle tier coaches have turned down? His reputation means everything to him and he's an egomaniac. It seems like he would only want a job that was universally known to be the best? Does accepting the TN job make him look like he settled for a job?
If Hart needs excuses, we got the wrong man at AD. If it is the case that he relied on Gruden, and Gruden fell through, that is Hart's fault. He should have seen what has happened to other teams in the NFL and college that have courted CJG and had someone lined up.
Arkansas has been speaking with Bielema since September. If Hart didn't realize we needed to make a change, or at the least explore options since Kentucky 2011, then Hart needs to step down.
I don't think the AD was testing the waters at all. I believe that if the AD got one of the other candidates at the price he wanted (or was able) to pay, the PC would be done, and we'd have a coach.
I think a lot of confidence shown by the OGs on here this week was a combination of some knowledge and some hope. Boosters are connected. They knew the other candidates. They know fellow boosters at those schools. Money people know money people. The would have had a very real sense of the offer the UT AD would have been capable of making as well as some sense of the likelihood of them taking it.
This is my guess why the "so close you will want to puke" comment popped up. I think there was at least some concern as to the likelihood of LU matching us for Strong or the possibility he might take the job anyway because it was in the SEC.
Hargis isn't done yet. Y4B got it right, but was maybe a little premature with it.
When all is said and done, A LOT of people are going to owe Hargis an apology, and he should win some writer awards......
I gotta believe that Peyton Manning, Charles Davis, all the greats from Tennessee's past care more than enough to have a voice in putting this parade of clowns to an end!
:neener:
So, when do they, along with the Haslams, and the other big name boosters tell Hart to get the **** out, and get this thing done the right way?:crossfingers::crossfingers:
Does Freak have a PayPal account connected to this site? If so we should all chip in some cash to help him keep this site up and running. If he doesn't have one, he needs one.
This place has been great over the last few weeks and is way better than the pay sites.
