Official Jon Gruden Thread XVI

I have a $100 bet with a buddy.....I said it's Gruden.......He says it's not....

Just asked him if he wanted to double and he said sure, you're going to owe me $200....it's not going to happen.......

Right now it needs to be Gruden or Fulmer.

Fulmer would have to be insane to take the job again.

Surely he would not set himself up to have to do another resignation conference.

The man just entered into the HOF. He needs to be an AD not a field coach.

There's a reason we let him go and it wasn't a Hammy thing. It was because he got content. Recruiting was bad, kids were getting in trouble much more publicly, product on field was degrading. It was like watching your favorite animal get old. You love him and have great memories but you see him start limping and stumbling and know it was time to put him down (metaphorically of course 😊)

I posted it earlier, but I will say it again.

I don't think there is any conspiracy or smoke screen. I think last week was a feeler so that that everyone knew what it would cost to get Gruden. Once they did, they started shopping around to see what they could get for less.

If it is true that the boosters created a "Gruden only" money pool, maybe Hart shopped the market to see what he could get without it? It looks like he's not having much luck.

With everything else falling through, perhaps it is points everything back to Gruden.

I agree that it makes everything look really bad, but we are a "live in the moment" society these days. No matter what, it will come down to who we hire, not about the process itself.

I agree, going to Fulmer with hat in hand may look like we are going backwards. BUT Phil Fulmer is not mid-major coach! Our future draw for coaches is diminishing with each passing day; we look rediculous, and it needs to stop.

AD, if you have Gruden in the bag, talk to us; you don't have to let the cat out of the bag, just talk to us.

If you don't have Gruden in the bag, (and if we know Petrino won't work) go get Fulmer back on the job - with performance-based incentives. Give him the money to get the best assistants/recruiting minds in the country.

Whatever the outcome of this coaching search, sit back and enjoy the ride. You might as wells too, I don't think any of us have any input on any of it. Does anyone here actually imagine that Hart, Gruden, other possible coaching candidates, or the boosters are gonna check VN for our advice on how to get this done? If they did check VN, Gruden would have probably been here instead of Kiffin.

On the TSR chatbox someone just said that babyvol bet his season tickets that Gruden is coming. Can anyone confirm that?

That's really not a risky bet because if Gruden doesn't come and Hart hires one of these no-names that's being tossed around, nobody will want his tickets anyway.

Tell Tony that Hart's not gonna have to hire Gruden because Gruden's gonna be here and he's not.

If Hart needs excuses, we got the wrong man at AD. If it is the case that he relied on Gruden, and Gruden fell through, that is Hart's fault. He should have seen what has happened to other teams in the NFL and college that have courted CJG and had someone lined up.

Arkansas has been speaking with Bielema since September. If Hart didn't realize we needed to make a change, or at the least explore options since Kentucky 2011, then Hart needs to step down.

FWIW, I called into 104.5 this AM (1045thezone.com in Nashville)...

1. The call screener said that Stephen Hargis was found to not be reliable (which I don't agree with), and don't know how that would relate to his credibility anyway.

2. Then basically got hung up on by Mark Howard on air, he wouldn't even further the discussion, didn't know who Grider was, or acted like it, etc, end of discussion...

Personally, I'm all in for Gruden, but kinda understand why media would downplay it, but do not understand why media would absolutely shut it down.

They've discussed every coach under the sun, but when it comes to Gruden, it's almost like you just p***** in their coffee, at some point there needs to be some rational discussion as to why this Gruden talk is so outrageous, if that is in fact the case...

Personally, I'd like to hang around and give them a big s*** burger to eat...

How is he not reliable and this Knoxville media who are telling us it's strong, Fedora, Gundy, no it's not, yes it is, no it's not...etc. are any better?

Um yes it did.

Orange Santa Clause.

How did you miss it??

' lol nice. But seriously, I thought I heard something about "ya'll better get up 15 minutes early in the morning cause your gonna want to read our paper. hint hint" Also, didn't Hargis respond, "Not yet" when asked about his next article going up?

Dear god we better get Gruden. This seems to be the consensus among everyone I know on campus...

"We basically fired a coach who had a 3:1 win loss record and was inducted into the hall of fame. Then we hired a coach who left in the middle of night after screwing us over. Then we hired the most incompetent coach in Tennessee football history. Tennessee Football has been systematically dismantled by poor decision making and an unwillingness to pay up and get a coach that can compete with the big boys"

He resigned on tuesday.

He is friends with Gruden.

Dooley destroyed in state relationships with High School Coaches.

The thought is that Gruden will hire Grider as his high school liason!!!

I posted this theory on the Grider / Gruden thread:

Sure, he will end up of his staff. But his important first unofficial job will be dead period prospect analyst. JG will have a shortened recruiting period. What if JG already had a list of top prospects that would come just on his name, ones that a little visit would take care of, ones that would take some serious convincing and the ones that were just not coming no matter what. How much time could that save a guy. We know that JG is very organized and efficient. He would want to spend his time wisely and this is just a masterful way to do so. He also gets to be in these kids ear when all the other coaches will not since Grider is not on a staff that doesn't exist, yet.

Because if UT lands Gruden or another Unnamed Unconfirmed Head Coach who is a home run, then it really won't matter. The media will say that there was a method to the madness!!!

Perhaps you're right, but I doubt it.

We are very publicly going after these coaches and they are publicly rejecting us. any one of them COULD have accepted our offer and cut us off at the knees in terms of pursuing Gruden. I dont remember this happening to any other football program ever.

I believe someone (perhaps the UTADs, perhaps some boosters) went after Gruden to some degree but it all died on 11/30.

I believe UT has no freaking clue who will be the next HC.

The thought of that is so horrible, though, that people are believing that it can't really be THAT bad and that Hart must have some secret plan to pull an ace out of his sleeve.

This has become a cluster of a situation. There will have to be a point where boosters take this thing over and get our guy. Hart is a disaster. I would like to think he is playing chess to eventually get Gruden but history of this school tells us no.

Their only rationale is that he has the perfect job on MNF and would never leave it unless it's to coach an NFL team. However, that is only their opinion, yet they preach it as though it is fact based on, I don't know, clairvoyance?
