I do not think some people that are bashing Strong realize what the alternatives are if Gundy is out. Without the Strong hire, Fedora and Golden would be considered "A Listers". If not one of those two, or some crazy Tressell hire or something we are either looking at Butch Davis or someone we have never heard of (again).

Somebody said we got us a nuclear option called Petrino.

Adam Himmelsbach.

So this is me being optimistic...

Sounds like Charlie is giving Louisville a chance before he takes off. They can't really match any offer if he really wants to be in the SEC.

Hoping this staff stuff etc is just theories that have made the rounds but in reality hes giving them one last chance before he meets with the team for a group hug.

Taggart would be a good fit with Wisconsin. USF would be tough because it looks like they may be stuck in the Big East.

I thought Cal would have been a great gig for Taggert as well.

Wisky is a great fit.

Strong is in a total position of power. Hart may have to break the $4M mark to get him.

Because the OG's in the Gruden thread said all of this would happen, they predicted it weeks ago. They said there would be coaching interviews, job turned down by multiple coaches, meltdowns by fans and media, no one knowing what's going on, etc...and in the end Hart would look like a hero saving the day. Many more detailed info, if you followed those threads closely you would know, but you get my point.

I have no idea why it would need to be done this way, why all the drama but I didn't write the story. Apparently, boosters, Hart and Gruden did. So far, it's played out beautifully if you believed the story.

Now, this might not happen and I'll admit to being fooled but so will many others including the folks on VN sharing the info. Those OG's aren't lying, trolling or making things up, I'm a good judge of character and I 100% believe that to be the truth. They're sharing exactly what they're being told from boosters, coaches, players, agents, etc...Way too many people have heard this is real and happening for it to not be, IMO.

We'll see soon...

I was all over them...I read all the info, and I don't doubt that they believe their info is legit, but this cloak and dagger stuff seems too far fetched. I don't begrudge them or anyone else that was involved in the Gruden-mania, but the hard evidence points to Gruden not coming here.

I hope they're right. I REALLY DO....

I wonder if Cal is interested in Greg Roman. He'd do well there.

I just hope Hart can makes this happen. I can't really see it ending well if we lose Strong.

The story about the assistants and staff makes more sense than "Charlie Strong got tired of waiting." Usually when you interview for a job you expect the employer to interview a few more people for due diligence purposes.

On the other hand, Mike Gundy... wow. Second year in a row he has flirted with other jobs and it looks like he's staying put. That's gotta just trash any political capital he's got in that AD. He better get back to competing this season.

When is Hart supposed to be back from NYC if he isn't already?

Also, if Strong is the guy would he jump to UT immediately or want to coach in bowl game before making the move?

When you hire a good coach away from another school, you re-establish market value. Strong is worth $4M to UT.

At this point you cant screw up and go down another tier for a coach. Give Strong the 4m but I dont think he deserves more and give him the cash to hire a hellacious staff.

Is anyone else nervous that Strong will end up staying at Louisville??

Yes, very nervous. Here is why: With UL now in the ACC, Strong can get an AQ for a BCS bowl. If a team goes through the ACC undefeated, with a reasonable OOC schedule, you could legitimately have a shot at the NC game, or at least the 4 team play off.

That route is much easier than trying to get UT through that gauntlet in the SEC.

He doesn't have to play for national championships at UL to keep his job forever, conversely if after 3 years he hasn't had UT in the SEC championship game he is probably looking for another job.

They competed just fine. Change two plays and they'd be 9-3. They'll be back next year. Considering they were on their third-string QB by the end of the season plus other injuries I think they'll be okay.

I agree to a point and why I said go for it and give him $4m. Right now I dont think hes that big name, crowd pleaser just because there is a large divide with him already. I DO think in the long run he will be and that will start paying for itself on NSD this year. Once he gets a couple of top 5 classes and producing on the field the haters will disappear and the SWAG will be back. (Had to get swag in there somewhere just for you lol)

Butch Davis may be exactly what this program needs at this time. It may take us another hire r two to get the program back. There just is not a home run hire in this new environment and the with the strength of the SEC.

Good point about the playoff coming into the picture. Also, iirc herbstreit & couple others picked fsu to be in bcsncg this year. Win 2-3 tough games a year in that conf & very good chance you're in the playoffs. Much harder to do at UT.

Bump.....

Where did everybody go???? The thread didn't have a post for about a minute and I thought the world had ended haha

Hart better get his guy soon. This is looking messy and having us outbid Louisville is not something we should be proud of. The fact he is wavering is not good . Don't think fedora cuts it but jmo . Really disappointing to say the least that this issue is not resolved .
