Just a meaningless rant... Please bare with me..I am simply a frustrated fan.

I am losing faith that our AD is actually committed to winning.

Dooley was a fail- blame Hamilton
Sal was a fail- I blame Hart
UT now wants to be an Ivy League school- blame Cheek

I hate to even think this about our beloved Volunteers but the reports on the handling of this mess are not reinforcing faith in the fan base.

It is terrible that the Tennessee Volunteers is being out recruited by Vanderbilt!

Oh we'll, we haven't even hired a coach yet but I'm already feeling disappointed.... I have come to expect disappointment out of my Vols Football program.

Half a decade of mediocrity does not bode well for my confidence. Cheeks determination to make this an Ivy League school doesn't help either.

Oh well, just feeling a little down about the program tonight.

Obviously the next few weeks will tell the tale about the direction of the program.

Anyway. Go Vols

Just have another drink and forget about it.

That's doesn't help after 10 years. The Gruden excitement had me really fired up again for the first time in a looooooong time. Tough for now, yet I'm sure I'll get going again next August.

I think most fans are on the verge of giving up on getting the kind of coach that Tn has to have to even have a chance.Theres not 1 name out there left to excite the fans or recruits. This is another diaster in the making.
Fans put faith in Dooley because everybody knew he had walked into a mess and gave him the benefit. That wont happen with another Dooley type hire.If Hart doesnt make a grand slam hire then Neyland will be half full next year.

First off, don't believe the rumors - the truth will come out in Hart's official "New Coach" presser.

Second, take a deep breath and realize that such an important hire may take a little time - I know it's hard, but patience is a virtue.

Lastly, remember... it can't be any worse than it was under the Dooley watch! Just give Hart some time, and PRAY for him that he has the wisdom to make the right hire. ><>

Yup, common consensus. We need a home run hire to fend off the apathy that's set upon us. A "good coach" who is solid but doesn't bring immediate hype isn't good enough imo.

While some of us old guys fondly remember the 1998 NC, you do realize that for the average 19 year old, top-notch, high school recruit, was only 5 years old then. What this means is that for their meaningful football years, all they have seen at UT is dysfunctionalism (football, basketball, swimming and baseball); a radical, unhappy fan base, negative press ("ESPN hates us") and a coaching merry-go-round. The only UT most of them knows is the current state (<5 years) which means the next HC has a huge public relations mess to repair. He may be a great X/Os type of guy, but public relations may not be in his tool box and this will hurt the program for years to come. I'm not a Debbie-downer, but I do realize the tremendous hole the program is in all the while Alabama, Georgia, Florida, SCarol, MState, Ole Miss, LSU, etc. garner more and more positive press. They're enjoying a "virtuous cycle" (when good things promote/help other good things to happen). We're enduring a "vicious cycle" (when bad things promote/cause other bad things to happen).

This next hire is incredibly important to all things UT football easily for the next 10 years. All this Gruden s..t has been terrible distraction.

Truth be told, we do not know the inner workings of the university AD. For all we know, a stellar coach is already in line to come to UT and must do so on a timeline. I'm not overly confident of such, but I'm hopeful that $$$ talks. Based on the athletic departments retaining $18M over the next 3 years, I'd say the money truck is loaded to make the HC position appealing to most anyone out there, regardless of the circumstances of the program. Rarely are coaches fired and a new successful coach doesn't have to come in and rebuild. There are coaches out there who know what they're doing and believe me, there are guys out there with UT on their horizon. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. GO VOLS!

UTVOLS74,

I think that you just pointed something out that has not been addressed head on here. Dooley did MORE damage through PR than Kiff did by his midnight exodus. We are the Vols, we are SEC, But we are not the SEC kids think about. I remember when it was Florida, Tennessee, and Georgia for the east EVERY year. Now its just Florida and Georgia.. Yes USCjr is getting better but they seem to find ways to lose the big ones too.

How do you convince a 4 or 5 star recruit to come to UT when the graduating seniors this year went through three HC's?

A lot of folks, me included, said that Dooley brought stability to the program.. well, now we are learning that he did not. He damaged relationships with the places that the recruits come from the High Schools.

I think the next HC needs to have the strategic mind of Patton, the football fundamentals of Neyland, and the communication skills of Reagan.

Not sure this kind of coach exists, but that is what we need.

We need someone who will be THE face of UT period.

People say Fulmer they think of UT
People say Saban they think of Bama
People say Holtz they think of Notre Dame
People say Carroll they think of USCsr

We need a new face. We need to see Power T's from UT officials in the halls of high schools.. we need more than just X's and O's..

We need a strong leader...plain and simple.

Do it right Hart.. do it right.

While we are all sad about the state of the program, you shouldn't be the least bit upset that the school is trying to improve its academics. It is a University first, a football program second.

I have zero problems with that, I am working on my master degree and here I am in my 30's.. I want the academic excellence but at the same time I think state college should be an achievable goal for most in state students.

Sad part is that Tennessee's grade school academics are not ready for Ivy League requirement from its flagship STATE school.

Thanks!

I can agree with that. Well said, sir.

OP...fyi Hart said Sal had nothing at all to do with him....just yet another epic failure of Dooley.

Hart has this. Be patient...he is being surgical with this man....professional....respecting the prospects as they are already working for other employers and not distracting their players. Strong and Auburn for example.
..that didn't go well.

Alabama is about to win their third national championship in four years and we can't even win more than one conference game.... This is the worst time in the team's history.
