Golden and Fedora are what we got tired of Fulmer being, coaches that will win 7-9 games a year but thats it.
We should at least go to TCU and offer Patterson a huge contract and make him say no, not just assume and just aim for the most mediocre coaches we can.
Of the names mentioned the oly guy Hart could hire and not make me burn all my UT gear and quit watching CFB, would be Strong and thats just because he hasn't had time to prove he is nothing more than mediocre like the others have.

Oh ok so I'm just a joke. Well everyone has been saying that Hart wasn't just sitting on his butt. They said he was out there getting things done. Well we find out today that Hart hasn't really done anything. He hasn't contacted any ADs to ask about speaking with coaches, he hasn't actually interviewed any coaches and the names that are leaked that he is interested in has been a complete joke.
Sttops and Gundy are doing what every big name at a good job has been doing, geting their names in the mix to get raises. Fisher hasn't really accomplished anything considering the talent he has compared to the level of Comp in his conference. Gary Patterson hasn't even been thought of by this AD. Fedora and Golden have both proven that they will be exactly what got Fulmer fired, mediocre. The only name we've heard that I would support is Strong and thats more because Strong has solid ties to the SEC, knows how to recruit and win here and hasn't had time to prove to the world that he will nothing more mediocre like the other have.
So yah I am panicking, but its not because I'm unrealistic, its because we all just found out our AD has been sitting on his butt for 2 weeks and isn't even considering any coaches that would be anything but the safe mediocre hire.

It seems that nobody knows what Hart has/hasn't been doing. He's already procured $6M per year from academics to athletics. So maybe he's doing more behind the scenes that we fans give him credit for.

Since this is the only forum that seems to have any sense left I figured I would post in here...

I know some people are pissed by Lamonte's statement and the fact that Hart didn't say something first. However, is anyone else relieved by the fact that Hart/the AD is not commenting on every rumor that comes across a message board? It seems (and I may be wrong) that he has everything under control and will ultimately hire who he thinks will do the best job. If anyone thinks other wise then, well, I don't know what to tell you. His job is linked to this hire and, therefore, he isn't going to endanger himself with a half cocked hire.

Furthermore, people say this is a stand-off between the boosters and Hart. However, wouldn't the boosters (Haslam, Thornton, Ergen, et al.) have had at least a small say in Hart getting the job in the first place? With that said, if they didn't think he was competent to run the AD then they would have pitched a fit?

I think the money is there to get the coach and staff that will bring UT back to prominence sooner rather than later and I also think Hart has the resources/knowledge/ability to make that happen.

Go Vols.....I'll hang up and listen

My opinion is it was laughable. It was a chain reaction that couldn't stopped. People will believe anything they read. Their fault.

I think there were some truths and lies. I believe Gruden did talk to coaches about UT and joining him here IF it happened. I also think the posters originally caught wind of this and it just snowballed from there.

I'm not off the bandwagon until a different coach is introduced or the few people I trust say its done.

This is very much an AD v Booster situation.

I don't think we should be laughing at anyone. If Gruden had come, we all be slapping the insiders on the back and telling them what a great job they did in keeping us informed about. I personally, believe there was contact between UT and Gruden's camp. I don't think Gruden and Hart or La Monte would have talked directly until the deal was done or if it crashed. I think what was said by all involved was factually correct. I believe that talks broke down sometime this week and couldn't be salvaged. Hart did call Gruden or LaMonte this morning to touch base and make sure that in fact, there was nothing that could be done. The insiders were just reporting what they were hearing.

Time to move on to other candidates and stop saying "I told you so".

Exactly. Posters spread rumors from boosters. The media gets info from the AD. These two sources of info have been at odds a great deal during the last couple of months.

The so called insiders have said its been a done deal for about 3 weeks. Please tell me how that is keeping us informed?

There were legs to the story, but claiming mutual interest and saying the deal is done and its just a matter of time are two totally different things.

Yep. Didn't Hubbs and the 247group both have reports at different times about Gruden's interest. And/or Gruden contacting others about coaches. And/or his staff having an orange tint. Or whatever

And then Lamonte says there was never anything??? Something doesn't add up.

Through our investigative work today, we believe that Dave Hart and Jon Gilbert (Hart's 1st Lieutenant) are interviewing a candidate today. That candidate would appear to be Charlie Strong, Al Golden, or Larry Fedora. All three coaches are done with their regular season.

Hart and Gilbert were seen heading into a private jet service building earlier this afternoon. It's unclear if an interview is being done in Knoxville or if the two flew out to do the interview. In the past, Tennessee has done interviews in those buildings. Tennessee interviewed Jeff Lebo for the basketball job in that building when they hired Buzz Peterson.

People I trusted who knew big time boosters said Hart was keeping things very close and no one knew what was going on. IMO, a lot of these rumors came from heresay. You hear Gruden is interested, and then it gets exaggerated and eventually it turns into Gruden being a done deal.

A good agent will deny interest. Specifically if he wants his client to land an NFL job. I'll go ahead and say Gruden coaches the Chargers next year...
