Official Jon Gruden Thread XIII

If Smart is who he hires he better start looking for a good retirement home somewhere 500 miles from Knoxville. I am starting to doubt Harts abilities. If we had a dominate AD we would have a coach by now. Foley at Florida is the best AD in the country IMO. Maybe we should hire a powerful AD first. I wonder if Cheek hired someone he could control.

prolly get flamed for this but i would rather have smart than fisher....at least smart has proven he can win the big games with elite talent!

Money talks....If the big money donors want Gruden, the University and/or Hart will have to cave. They can't afford to pi$$ off the big money donors. I still have faith this is either a smokescreen or that clearer minds will prevail.

I get all my info at work. I saw your posts but had nothing new until I got to work. Now all the info is bad, and I am hating it. Would have such a needed boost for our program.

On the bright side, we will be getting a much better coach than the one that left. It will not be Golden imo.

And we need to remember that bright side! I truly believe we will be better in the years to come. If its not the Gru, I still can't see us getting stuck with another Dooley!

Keep in mind:

Hubbs formerly reported Manning wasn't involved. Today, Hubbs reports Manning is involved.

Hyams formerly reported there were no talks between UT and Gruden's camp. Yesterday, he reports Gruden's camp cancelled a meeting after multiple phone talks.

They are being fed information from the AD, and they are being fed that info late. Sometimes it seems as if their AD source either is lying or doesn't know the truth. I think it's the latter.

I find it coincidental that there was a supposed press conference today (from some sources) and instead of a presser it ended up being the day the "Gruden rumor" house, built by leaks from the boosters, was burnt down to the ground. Now Dave Hart will begin the process of building the new "Gruden to UT" house and go from goat to hero.

All I can think of is generating revenue, no way CBS, ESPN, KNS, VQ, and everyone is wrong and one singular Chattanooga sports editor is right.

I cannot help but wonder if the Memphis leak and Mike and Mike thing hurt our cause, it seemed like it was fragile and that could have set things in the wrong direction.

It makes perfect sense to me actually. This is, at this time, the university's official stance. No different than everyone reporting Alabama had hired Rich Rod. This stuff can change. Maybe the Hargis report is the beginning of the other side starting to fight.

Hargis has balls. I hope everyone is listening to this. His credibility is impeccable. He stands 100% behind his source and article. He said he refuses to take one step backward on it. It's on Hart.

Hard to keep up with all this. Can someone please provide a link for the Hargis article. Thanks.

The ogs never said Nov. 30? U kidding? I remember that day and them saying the day before sec championship game.

I believe one said he had heard November the 30th as a possible date but everything pointed to mid-December. After that people ran with the 30th.

Think about this though, there is no way to refute what Hargis reported whether Gruden comes or not. He has hedged his bets and we will never know. For years and years to come due to his article folks will debate that hart blew this instead of gruden saying no. We will NEVER know. This will be what everyone on here will be tired of hearing about for years to come. Mark my words

I had a bad feeling after the way Gruden responded to Mike and Mike... it was not what he said but his voice..

Then the report on Volquest seems to confirm what he told them about speaking to his family...:ermm:

Sad, Sad day to be here......:cray:

If we don't hire Gruden, RIP UT football. Its been a fun ride. We will have to build a new smaller stadium so that we don't look like a## clowns on television. At this rate Vandy will be better than us soon.... wait.... that already happened.

If hart actually half assed this pursuit he needs to get the hell out of town. Never been high on his hiring and the fact he is going against EVERYONE but himself and some administrators is telling he is completely out of touch.

Even if Gruden turns out not to be the "savior" at least we know we swung for the fences and weren't content with taking a chance on an up and comer or dooley 2.0 right as our program needs a shot in the arm.

There will be no afternoon press conference today for a new football coach at the University of Tennessee, nor was Jon Gruden ever presented with any contract or financial details to become the Volunteers' next football coach. So say sources extremely close to UT's search for Derek Dooley's replacement.

Some half-dozen sources have told VolQuest.com this morning that Gruden both declined an offer to meet with UT officials, most notably vice chancellor and director of athletics Dave Hart, this week and that neither side ever got to a point where a financial framework was outlined.

"We reached out to coach Gruden. Coach Gruden after visiting with his family informed us that it was not a move his family wanted to make at this time. He declined to meet with Tennessee. Financial considerations were never discussed," said a University source Friday morning.

The news comes on the heels of a report in Friday's editions of the Chattanooga Times Free Press that alleged Gruden was mulling over an offer and could decide on his own timeframe, a report labeled "irresponsible" by someone familiar with proceedings.

Now we know that we didn't have "False Hope." This thing could have been done. I'm tired of hearing the false hope stuff. It wasn't false hope. Thanks Hart.
