Official Jon Gruden Thread XIII

Some people don't want to believe it, but:

Gruden's offensive philosophy is complex. We saw what his defensive buddy at TB did with his complex defense in the NCAA.

Gruden is a control freak. Tampa Bay gave him everything he wanted after the SB, and he did a bunch of dumb things.

Gruden is regarded as this QB guru, yet he played musical chairs at TB because all these QBs he thought highly of ended up awful.

Don't like the VolQuest article, even though the source is anonymous. I'm in until my guy says otherwise, or until a new coach is named.....but this is troubling to be sure.

I've read your posts, and have had nearly identical information as you. However, I was told last night by these same people at 10p that the deal was off. I didn't receive any details.

Then all of these conflicting media supports suggesting two camps leaking different information. I am not sure what to think now, bc as of yesterday afternoon I was full go Gruden.

Actually, I think UGA is right. If Gruden truely wanted to be paid more than Saban, he is a total whack job. His record ain't all that. Yes, I wanted Gruden because he is currently sexy. But we don't need that type of ego.

Go Dawgs tomorrow night! We are all counting on you. Bama ain't all that this year

This whole search process would have moved on a quicker timetable if the Knoxville media hadn't been so completely worthless.

The stories about Dooleys incompetence were obvious to anybody if you did a little digging (see article out of chatt on terrible recruiting relationships).

Instead they just blew smoke up our a**es: hahaha lets joke about Tyler bray throwing beer bottles. Wow look Dooley took them to camp! 7 assistants leave? Nothing to see here!

Exactly. If they had exposed the crap earlier and did some real journalism.

Yeah.....nothing is adding up. Until my guy tells me otherwise, there is an OFFICIAL statement from UT, or another coach is hired, I'm dancing with who brought me.

I'm with You !!
Thanks for all the info you've given us and stuck with it !!

Boro, if this thing goes down the tubes will you and the other OGs know and be able to share the details of why it went south? I have been with you guys since G1 and don't plan to abandon you now. FWIW :hi:

I learned the hard way about 6 months ago that Twitter and Talk Radio are terrible sources of information without press releases or official statements to back it up. When I hear them say something, I check local media websites and key national websites. If there's no substantiation or the only reference is a quote of the tweet or radio host, then you have to ignore it. Bottom line, none of these tweets and commentary on talk shows is anything more than a feeding frenzy for information. As such, I'm not believing any of it - good or bad.

As a guy that was formerly in the TV news market, we are educated on how to deal with stories. And the first thing they teach us is that it is always easier to backtrack from saying no than by saying yes. Meaning the guys saying no, have a lot less to lose than those saying yes. The guys saying yes are putting themselves out there more. Are they right we will see, but I was taught through experience education that you listen to the yeses and are skeptical of the no's, because there is always more story to be found....Just my .02[/QUOTE

+1

It's easy for Hart to look like a conquering hero here, he can backtrack and say we reached out again and were able to find a common ground.

Boom......he can just say that it didn't look good but we were able to get things done in the end.....

Lex,does your info match up with mine in this regard.

Tennessee is going to be activley interviewing other cadidates (and has in a couple cases) to gauge what is out there before a final attempt at an agreement with Gruden is attempted to be reached?

Or do you believe that no other candidates are really involved because Gruden is likely to come and we are just waiting for his timeline to announce it?

This is what Slice posted/hinted and also said it made our AD the most effed up in the country.

Ok,
I hear it's done but Hart wants it to look like it's a legitimate interview process and hire that He's responsible for And not something the boosters did. I'm now not confident when the announcement will be.

Harts really pissing me off.

Just make the D@mn announcement for the love of all things Holy!!!!

However this may saga end please keep in mind that the OG's were some what correct. They did bring the whole Gruden thing to the table here and it appears that at least some of their info was correct.

As pissed as I will be if we do not land Gruden and as tempting as it may be, we can not take it out on the OG's. They are VFL just like us.

Honestly, I agree. The amount of control over the football program Gruden reportedly wanted (and the amount of easy outs as well) would've been very uncomfortable. And you can't guarantee he would've stayed longer than a couple years until he bolted for the NFL.

What is there to lose?

In the end, if its not Gruden, I fear that not a single soul will be happy with what me might have to end up with.

The saddest of affairs is if we hang out so much money and not a single top notch coach wants it, then UT Football is done. We are not as great of a destination as we all want to believe.

I have an idea. Let's wait until a coach is announced and THEN post comments. VN has no say in the decision whatsoever, so let the decision process run its course. After it is over, then comments can be made.
