Official Jon Gruden Thread XIII

I don't think the naysayers get it:

The Grudenites are enjoying this. Sure there is panic in the air - but it's a fun ride. It's a rollercoaster we are deciding to ride.

So please know that when you come in and tell us to let go, you aren't doing anyone a favor. It's really just making the thread move faster and adding unnecessary clutter...so please stop.

People, I beg.you.....just relax....do not panic.....good tbings are gonna happen......its gonna come.from Vols and Gruden.when it comes down.....all the rest.of us are waiting

Who is Gary Haskew???

Dr B .. Sport Talk host in nChattanooga on 102.3 He does have some sources and has been on Gruden for a while now.

We're destined for disappointment if we don't get Gruden. Anyone else doesn't create half the buzz he does.

No one else will have any impact....especially enough impact to rescue recruiting.....so we either WIN or we LOSE....and UT's had enough losing for a decade or more
Get Gruden......stop the Losing

If you believed that a MOU of sorts was agreed upon, then there is no reason to believe the "Gruden left us at the alter" argument.

Exactly. The only real wild card is the Billy Donavan factor. Heck...he coached in Orlando for 2 days, and then went back to Florida.

All that to say...either it is signed and we are being played (which is my stance) or Gruden has pulled the plug.

I think the AD has led a misinformation campaign for at least the last 3 weeks. I don't know why they would stop until the new coach is announced.

guys.....I don't post much but I just sent an e-mail to the tennessee fund that I'm having serious doubts about the leadership of our athletic department. I know it seems knee jerk but I asked them how I go about being re-imbursed my plede(donation)......just my .02 cents.

Dr. B, as he is known on Sport Talk, WGOW Chattanooga. The man IS sports in southeast TN for the past 30 years.

AV

He said he heard from Big Jim. Like I said, Chattanooga and Knoxville are butting heads right now with their info on Gruden.

Quote:
There will be no afternoon press conference today for a new football coach at the University of Tennessee, nor was Jon Gruden ever presented with any contract or financial details to become the Volunteers' next football coach. So say sources extremely close to UT's search for Derek Dooley's replacement.

Some half-dozen sources have told VolQuest.com this morning that Gruden both declined an offer to meet with UT officials, most notably vice chancellor and director of athletics Dave Hart, this week and that neither side ever got to a point where a financial framework was outlined.

"We reached out to coach Gruden. Coach Gruden after visiting with his family informed us that it was not a move his family wanted to make at this time. He declined to meet with Tennessee. Financial considerations were never discussed," said a University source Friday morning.

The news comes on the heels of a report in Friday's editions of the Chattanooga Times Free Press that alleged Gruden was mulling over an offer and could decide on his own timeframe, a report labeled "irresponsible" by someone familiar with proceedings.

Makes no sense. I thought his wife wanted to come back to Tennessee? I do belie some people have talked to the family and had good information on this.

All of the media leaking is just buying time. This is clear in that there are no "official" definitives by either UT or Gruden. Game is still on.

Why?...because he doesn't think it's the right move for his family at this time? Please.

I want Gruden as much as anyone on this board, but if the guy feels that this move isn't the right one for his family, well...Family>All IMO

It's not to say he doesn't still love TN and TN football.

your point is correct. let me back up. when the wash comes out, if there is a perception that Gruden toyed with UT to leverage more money or just for kicks, then he will be a hated man in Knoxville. that would not be the right move for his family.

I think it's safe to say, either way this goes down. Media members will be on new beats after the first of the year! I've never seen anything like this. It's mind blowing. Knoxville and Chattanooga are butting heads.

Then ******mit do it already...they can and should but they havent...all in until its all out come today or the end of December...and nothing trolling sumbishes gonna say will change that. I expect to see people from both sides eat crow depending the outcome...Ill come eat my crow, guaranteed, but will trolls? Not likely.

he is not I used to work in Chattanooga radio..he would not step out like this..coiuld really put black mark..30 years...long time in tight knit town

I'm not an insider by any means, but it's easy to see that this is a power struggle. It's been the boosters vs the university. Sources on both sides are getting different information. Who knows what will happen and who'll win out. John Brice hinted at this last night that Gruden wouldn't be a popular choice by the AD but obviously the boosters are pushing it. Guess we'll all have to wait and see.

Yep Sums it up....Hart never did approch Gruden. Peyton and the boosters wrote there own contract but it had no meaning as they cant legally hire. The problem was some folks here were privey to what Peyton and the boosters were doing and assumed they were speaking for the University. Thus these threads proclaiming 100 percent done. Now here we are. Pick one of Hart's candidates and lobby for him.

I am still hoping, wishing that Gruden comes here.....with my orange blood pumping heart.

But my head is prepareingme for Fedora, Golden, or Smart.

I'm so distraught that I am about to turn back in my UT season tickets on the 50 yeard line that I have never purchased

It is comforting to hear Lex say this- cause this is what I've been thinking since Wednesday (but without his sources).

The AD is not going to make a statement about who they DIDN'T hire.

I don't know the truth of what has actually happened, but if JG is dead, I can almost assure you that the best play for the AD is to not say anything. If/when hetalks to the media and he is specifically asked, you'll get a quote something like this:

"Rumors are typical during coaching hires. It's unfortunate, but I understand the excitment of the fans. bla, bla, bla. I am confident we'll find a coach that will move Tennessee football forward, bla, bla, bla."

Today's media is completely a "he said, she said" kind of thing. People choose who to believe.

This.

It would be a pr nightmre for Hart to make an official statement about how Gruden is not in consideration.

I only was passing info earlier that no press conference was happening today so people could know what to expect.

If you don't want accurate information then I will stop relaying what I hear and what I see on other sites.:hi:

I'll believe it aint true when Dave Hart strolls somebody up there besides Gruden. I can't believe that we just contacted him and he just now discusses this with his family and no money was discussed. Just yesterday the media was reporting that it was a money thing particulary his pool for assistance and now all of a sudden there were never any compensation packages discussed? Come on something smells bad here.

For all I know, Gruden may have indeed said "no."

But elements of that AD/Hubbs release don't make sense. It smells fishy to me.

Arent you heading towards Grudens house this weekend?? Care to swing by and see whats really going on :)

Haha, yes... I will drive past the Gruden home tomorrow in Tampa. I will gather as much intel as possible, but I still maintain that there is no "tan Yukon" with "South Florida" plates and a Buccaneers hitch cover. :lolabove:

Unbelievable! Keep in mind those rates are for the entire 24-hour period... I wish I could see how high they are for the peak periods.

I am not stating anything other than my opinion, but the two are in no way mutually exclusive. I can interview for a job and agree on salary then other things repel me, other opportunities come up. I do not know. I do nto know if its over, on or what. I am only saying UT football will survive.

This thread is degrading into something that I do not like. Its like people are hanging on every word, surmising what they want from it, and being ridiculous.
