Copy of an email i sent my dad, a life long bammer fan, after he gloated about Gruden denial. I think it sums up a lot of what we're thinking in here.
I have watched and rewatched the Gruden interview. A few interesting points to mention. 1. He didn't deny that he was interested in UT or that UT was interested in him. He denied that he had a contract in hand, and that the contract included a stake in the Browns. Everything I've read said that if he were to accept an offer like this it would violate his buyout terms with Tampa and would be an NCAA violation if the stake in the Browns was not first donated to UT. His only option was to deny, not to mention he is still employed by espn, the network he was on. 2. He said that if it were true he would have to inform his wife and kids. There is no way they don't know anything about his interest in return to coaching. 3. His attitude over the question looks like it convinced mike and mike to drop it, there were no follow up questions. It's public knowledge that Gruden and Dooley have a relationship, and I think the fact that this broke (allegedly with Sexton as the source) annoyed Gruden. The only response from the UTAD was a leaked source to Hyams (radio) and Hubbs (volquest.com) that Gruden had canceled a meeting. If true, this makes no one look good, UT or Gruden. This is the only information that has come from UTAD. This all seems like a lot of cloak and dagger stuff, especially considering UK has their coach and Auburn was vocal about interviewing Strong. Silence is deafening. Either Hart is the worst AD in the country, sitting on his haunches while other SEC schools lock up coaches, or this is all being done on double secret lockdown. I'm 99.9% that it's Gruden, this feels way too much like Saban '07. Will gladly eat crow if I'm wrong.
Just my thoughts, fwiw
