I believe that the difference in this hire is you have to set back and say do i want to settle for a guy that might get you 8 maybe 9 wins a year or do you want to hire someone that will set a new standard and start winning S.E.C. Championships and National Championships If you want the 8,9 hire somebody on the B list If you want to be at the pinnacal swing for the fences and get Gruden because he will bring in a staff that not only can they coach players up and get them ready for the next level and win championships they will be able to recruit just as good if not better than anyone in the country so oh yeah and by the way you will sell out of tickets probably the next three years very a few days after the hire is made. Thats just my fealings on this situation Get GRUDEN.

Reminder this guy is big in his area but has ZERO UT info or insider knowledge (kind of like rucker) and is simply relaying what the people in that part of country are saying.

Not sure why anyone is being hard on Rucker. His info was pretty good tonight. I know for a fact he has sources just like the others. However, AD sources are being quiet except for what they want you to believe and outside sources are all over the place.

Honestly there's only two reasons Gruden won't come to Tennessee:

1. Wants to go to NFL again eventually
2. Doesn't think he can win here.(Will ruin his chances at other jobs)

IMO.

I think number 2 is a big deal. I think he's kind of scared to coach again because he knows his stock can only go down.

The dam was beginning to crack under Fulmer, it broke when Kiffin left, and Dooley opened the flood gates.

I don't think a lot of people realize just how poor the state of the program is in right now. I still think it's a great job because of tradition, facilities, support, etc. But our biggest problem is the conference we play in and bringing in the talent to compete against the highest level of competition in the country.

For guys like Golden, Fisher, and Strong I honestly believe it will take them 4 to 5 years to rebuild the program to the point that we are competing for SEC championships. Not because they are bad coaches, but because of how far the program has slipped.

The moment Gruden steps on campus, Tennessee becomes nationally relevant again. With the right staff, Gruden will have Tennessee winning again by year 2. I don't think there is anyone else as a plausible choice who can do that. I think the AD knows this and I really believe UT makes it happen.

This is spot on . If not Gruden I say keep Chaney save your money and face the fact we are now in the bottom like Ky and vandy.

Wow Guys, this is some addictive entertainment. As an alum, I'm as interested as everyone else here. Thank you all for the information, speculation, and prognostication about our friend Mr. Gruden. After indulging myself in many of these forums for days now, I have come to one distinct realization. Were all nuts! We all have a true passion for Tennessee Football, and thats not a bad thing. After watching Hart's press conference, I think he gets it. Whether we get Gruden, Fisher, or Good Lord forbid Strong, The University of Tennessee will have made a significant upgrade in the football coaching department. I believe the only (and perhaps the most important right now) area that Jon Gruden would make an absolutely significant difference in (as opposed to other quality candidates) would be recruiting. We do need recruiting help in a BAD way. But on the other side of the coin, what if we get the former Super Bowl champion coach Gruden, and he works out as Saban did in Miami, or even achieve the level of greatness Steve (I'll omit the expletives) Spurrier found in our nation's capitol? How much would that buyout cost? How fortunate were we all that Johnny Majors came home and found it in his heart to allow Phillip Fulmer to run his offense? We all appreciated that story line. I just hope that when Peyton’s days on the grid iron come to an end (and I hope that ends like Elway’s did), he comes home to settle some unfinished business with Florida and National titles. Go Vols!

This is just speculation but I'm starting to think the answer will not come tonight... Therefore I'm going to say my prayers and hope for good news Friday if not tomorrow. It's in the Grude's hands now.

I'm out guys. Let's hope for a better day tomorrow. I seriously doubt it, though. I expect tomorrow to be tough for the message boarders.

Keep the faith...

I'm of the mind that it has been in Gruden's hands. Hart's calling his bluff...

Maybe, but the longer he stays away the same thing may happen to his stock.

I don't think he's scare but I'd be surprised if he hasn't looked at the situation realistically and assessed what it would take to have a premiere program at TN. Just think the difference between our program now and one that would be considered premiere is probably between $30-40m in additional annual revenues. jmo.
