As far as the program burning, they still need a coach, and Golden will hopefully be that coach. I'm not impressed by him.
Penn St. had a better record, after being decimated by the NCAA, than Miami did in a weak ACC.
That's the biggest part of this problem. If Gru falls through, as you say, only Bob Stoops (who isn't coming) would be adequate.
Tennessee could hire a winner like Larry Fedora, and the fanbase will want him burn because the fan base is so enamored with a long shot.

No, the fanbase is tired of our team getting Sanduskied on the football field, and on the recruiting trail. Jalen Hurd even commented on how irrelevant we have become on the recruiting trail. If we don't hire someone that has a good name with this kids out there, we will bottom feed the East for a few more years.
Selling the product is UT's problem, not the fan base's. If they let this go on, and mismanage the Gruden angle, they have no one to blame but themselves.
