Here's a serious question for you guys. If gruden is indeed our coach now, why the wait? why would we not just announce it? out of respect for his friend dooley? i just don't get it, what are they waiting on?

The theories have been laid out since VERY early on in this saga. Do you just read what you want to read and skim past everything else?

1. Potential (large?) buyout payment still owed to Gruden by the Bucs. This would seem to be the biggest reason.

2. To make it appear that there was an actual coaching search.

3. Lots of legal maneuvering with his contracts etc.

No clue if any of these are truth or rumor but I find it hard to believe that you haven't seen them mentioned in these threads. Or maybe your reading comprehension skills are lacking.

Plenty of reasons and probably more we can't guess.

Friday makes a bigger splash since more people will be tuned in and off work.

Need to get all the paperwork finished.

Gruden might have contractual issues that need to be finished or his payout from Tampa.

This isn't just sign the dotted line and lets go stand in front of a power T.

Just sharing a third hand account. My question is why would Jon Gruden drive himself and have his own car in Knoxville. Could be mistaken identity.

Gruden's talk was far less uncertain about his future than Meyer or Saban. Gruden comin' ya'll.

I actually wish he had screamed NO and hung up on them (I presume it was a phone interview, right?).

IMO, story hits on Friday afternoon, rolls into the afternoon sportscenter, breaks on ESPN. Then picked up by Gameday/SEC game (one of the few games on), SEC Game has Bama win (again) or Bama upset...then continues Sunday with explanation again on Monday Night Football as to why Coach Gruden isn't announcing MNF. 4 days of news. If story breaks now, story gets stale by Friday, less momentum. Right now, the casual fan is just getting word. Just hearing. By Friday, it will be something everyone is listening to. National news is just getting the word out. Gives them time to catch up.
