Ohio St
Michigan
Texas
Florida
LSU
Georgia
In no particular order...
And Tennessee was #9/10 and depending on the year, #9 ahead of Georgia.
Dumb. Not what he said at all.
Did I miss something? I didnt see where Gruden denied the job offer or anything to do with Tennessee on mike and mike, just denied that an offer included the Cleveland Browns.
I actually think that was a very positive statement in that he didnt decline anything with possibly HC the vols!
FW2, we know he has coached his sons HS team for atleast a year. Videos show that he worked with the "kids" pretty well.
Wow, that is VERY surprising. Can't say I disagree with his list except for Michigan.
I don't know why people think Gruden's intensity will be an issue. Kids will respond as long as they think he's genuine and he gives a crap about them.
Mike Greenberg's question to Gruden on Mike & Mike this morning was as follows:
Greenie: News Channel 3 has learned that you, Jon Gruden, have a contract offer in hand from the University of Tennessee, and that a decision could be made as early as today. Part of this apparently is that you would get a piece of the Cleveland Browns, who were recently bought by Jim Haslam, who is a huge Tennessee booster, because he played at Tennessee, and he is the father of Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam. So, first and foremost, Jon, is this..is there any truth to this whatsoever?
Gruden: "Uh no there isn't." Because:
1. I'm not holding the contract in my hand
2. The final decision is pending a few details that will not be resolved by today
3. I am not getting a piece of the Browns.
4. The Browns were not bought by Jim Haslam
5. The owner of the Browns, Jimmy Haslam, Jr. never played football at Tennessee
6. The owner of the Browns, Jimmy Haslam, Jr. is not the father of Bill Haslam, Tennessee's Governor.
"So, no Greenie, there is no truth to that whatsoever."
Knowing how to manage is one thing but having their respect is another.
It was clear these last 3 seasons that Dooley go ZERO respect from his players. Grden will have that from Day 1 once those kids see that superbowl ring.
Saban is a prime example - I don't think they cherish the relationship - they RESPECT the accomlishments.
I'm sure that age, as well as some time away from the pressures of being a pro HC, have mellowed him a little bit too.
