Official Jon Gruden Thread XI

I would be very surprised if it were true that everything is in place and they are waiting several days to announce it in the interest of timing the splash. That just doesn't happen. Every day that it is delayed is one more day for it to leak. If it leaks, then the admin loses control of the release and the flow of information. That is far from ideal for them. They'd much rather hold a PC with everyone there than get bombed with individual calls and interview requests.

While it may be true that a tentative agreement is in place, and they very well may have their man, I think it is more likely that they aren't releasing anything because they don't have all the I's dotted and the T's crossed.

Or, Gruden wants the delay for personal reasons.

I wouldn't be surprised at all... Ohio State attempted to do this with Meyer but the media broke before they could wait longer. At the same time, I think there is an agreement, but not a signature... or Gruden knows if it breaks today, it wouldn't be news on Saturday and that's not as good for recruiting.

No clue if it is or isn't either. Hope like hell it is.

I'll say this, if his ego is half of what people act like it is, college football offers something the NFL has a hard time matching.

Succeed in the NFL, people merely tolerate you unless you achieve a near impossible Lombardi-esque standard. Tom Coughlin doesn't have an statues on the way that I'm aware of.

Come to an SEC program and have any sort of sustained success, and you are damn near deified.

Think how his golden years would be if he came to UT, won a couple of MNC and then retired to the NFL with both a Superbowl and a National Championship. I mean just as a "what if". A decade or so in the college game could be a big feather in his cap.

I think if the timing of the announcement has anything at all to do with media coverage, that's a fair point to consider.

If we were announcing a fairly big time hire, we would want to announce far away from any sort of event like the SECCG, because we would want to get coverage, not compete with the big game.

If we were announcing a jaw dropping hire (Gruden), we would want to announce right before the SECCG to take media coverage away from the rest of the SEC.

Of course, the timing could have nothing to do with that, or the rumor could be altogether false.

We are saying the same things.

What Gruden numeral was this question addressed in?

Not picking on you man...just sounds familiar...

I'm not sure. There's no way I am wading through this complete thread.

My point was that even IF, and it's a big IF, JG is the guy, they aren't releasing because they don't have a deal done and not to try to create some media splash. It's also possible they aren't releasing anything because they have no idea who the next coach is going to be!

The others are correct. A JG announcement will be a huge splash no matter when it is announced.

That's one way I'd sell it to him...
