Official Jon Gruden Thread XI

I am of the belief that when Gruden is announced...whether it be Friday or December, that recruits will be lining up to play for him.

He would put you back in on guys that you have slipped on, and get you in the door with guys you probably didn't have a shot at. Thats before he makes a visit.

This is a very good point. if this thing goes into next week, there is an equal chance that it could be somebody coaching this weekend as it would be for Gruden. It would bring every NCAA FBS coach into play.

I still choose to go with Boro, but it will make it more unpredictable.

You will then begin to see the true Grudenites, as the coattail hangers begin to fall away...should get pretty peaceful up in hurrr...or go all to h377 quick...I think this weekend is a deal breaker for most fence riders...

Im in until I see podium day...

Yeah, his spread option offense and 3-2-6 defense really translate well to the NFL...

LMAO!

You need to stop listening to whoever thinks Chip Kelly will ever coach a National Football League game.

Adam Schefter is a pretty reliable source IMO

Has Dave Hart told anyone in the media or on this board that he was going after Jon Gruden? I doubt it. Why does he need to say the man is "out" if he was never "in? It makes no sense that people expect explanation for things that may not even be the case. Maybe Gruden is hired, maybe not. Hart does not need to explain himself or give reasons why a candidate is not an option just because the media and or fanbase as started a fabricated search in their minds.

Mainly because if he comes out and is dishonest about pursuing Gruden and says some BS hire was his first choice then he is setting that coach up for failure. Every UT call in show on TV and radio are all Gruden, I would say 75% or more of the fan base thinks this most likely could happen.

Without addressing it, when whomever the coach is, goes 6-6 or 5-7 next year they will not get a pass, seats will be empty again but worse, and we will be talking about this again. At least if it doesn't happen, and either Gruden announces it or the AD addresses it at least whomever they have to settle for has a chance to get fan support. Ignore it and they may have a full on revolt in their hands.

Hart is not traveling, not showing any urgency, and acting like a guy that knows what is about to happen. I remain confident it is Gruden, but equally confident if it ends up not being him it will get addressed by either he, UT, or both very soon.

I suspect the fanbase is looking for rationale since they have lost trust in the leadership of the program through the years. So, does the general public trust Dave Hart to do the absolute best for the football program?

And that's one of the main things that success in college football hinges on.

Good morning, everyone......does anyone know why JayBay said there will be an announcement @ 3 on Friday? Was that info released...did I miss something good?

I understand your point and mostly agree with it, but I think Greg Roman would make a great HC somewhere. Watched the 49'ers offense lately?

I agree completely about Roman, and truth be told, a couple of other guys on this list. That's part of what worries me about Gruden falling through (not that I think that will happen!) - almost every other coach that may be available is going to be a letdown.

If gruden isnt hired it could get bad. Stoops would cost more than gruden, petersen and patterson are not likely to leave. Strong has said he promised his players he would be there pkus im not sure he is the answer. Can jimbo fisher recruit at ut, anybody can at fsu. Is he even interested? I see it going down to petrino, golden, or i hate to say it maybe even franklin. Petrino is the best coach of that bunch but do we really need the baggage. Golden is just a no for me. I cant stand franklin but he is a good coach.

I dont' really care that he cheated on his wife - that's his problem.

But when he hired his mistress to the university? that is borderline prostitution and an HR nightmare.

That is my hesitation bith Bobby P.

He also lied to his AD about the whole thing, which may be the biggest problem of all. But he didn't lie about a compliance issue or anything that could get the program in trouble with the NCAA. I've always thought the whole clean slate thing with players who transfer was interesting--I mean a player can fail 6 drug tests or commit any number of other transgressions to get kicked out of one program, but as soon as he transfers another program welcomes him with open arms as if nothing ever happened. It's as if the approach is "well, he didn't do any of that stuff HERE." Should it be the same way for coaches?

Perhaps we have underestimated his sneakiness....he is very, very sneaky.

From the article I posted:

Moos, the athletic director at WSU, was using a private credit card to further the veil of secrecy. He didn't enlist a so-called "head hunter" search firm, opting instead for a trusted friend from Eugene, Ore., to act as third party.

Until he came face-to-face with Leach in a Marriott hotel on the island, it was all done through intermediaries. "We never had a conversation until that day," Moos says.

Golfballs, I'd like to know your thoughts on this deal...

I have no thoughts. I'm watching and waiting.

I will say it appears the people who are the most confident on the matter agree that Gruden is coming. The ones who say he's going to the NFL are just prognosticating.

I'm not so sure that David Shaw isn't my new number two. I had been stuck on Stoops and Strong. I wouldn't hesitate to offer Shaw 3 mill.

That's the way I see it, too. You'd have to have your head in the sand to not know what the fanbase wants. To ignore that would be a disaster.
