Official Jon Gruden Thread XI

I agree, and Gruden is the only person possible to announce in my eyes. If Gruden does not get finalized and we have to go with another plan, the announcement will not be this week. NO WAY Hart hires Golden without getting "No's" from several others. I have to think Golden is far enough down the list he would not be in play until after next week and other interviews with Stoops, Patterson, Peterson, Fisher, Mora Jr, etc....

I totally agree. If Hart announces Golden he'll have to say who turned him down or he'll make Hamilton look like a genius for hiring Dooley.

This certainly isn't going to be popular here but I am starting to think golden is exactly what we need if gruden doesn't happen. He has taken over two programs at rock bottom and with one of those performed miracles. The other the jury is still out on but without probation he would be in a championship game this week. I agree those other names must be called first but I will be completely behind al golden. His tract record shows he knows how to handle rock bottom situations and that's where we are!

Al Golden's 2009 "Miracle Year" of 9-4 with prestigious wins against:

Buffalo
Eastern Michigan
Ball State
Army
Navy
Toledo
Miami (Ohio)
Akron
Kent State

No thanks.

that's great lol

Then ur just not reading it right.. I wasn't disagreeing with anything about Gruden.. I was saying that this board would have a bigger meltdown than anywhere else because this place has so many people that are bought in 100%.. Ppl outside this site don't have as much confidence in Gruden happening.

Perhaps so...I edited the original...:good!:

It's lunchtime and I just read Basilio latest in the Cliff notes... Regardless of what happens that guy is so full of sh!t it is running out his ears... How do people like that get radio shows?

I think what he is trying to say is that UT is weighing the options. From a negotiation standpoint, UT needs to know that it has other options to talk Gruden down some if he truly wants the job. Also, it sounds like if we get Gruden that he is going to be expensive. IF he gets 50 mil for 8 years, then you can't get rid of him in four or five years even if he doesn't translate to College football and has Dooley like seasons... Do I think Gruden is the best hire out there? Yes, but I also know that if you give him that kind of money and it doesn't workout, then you are set back 10 years... The boosters and Hart are weighing their options and making sure they make the best hire they can make for UT... Honestly, would you not want them to look at all options and make the most informed decision possible?

Solid Post.......... imho

The message board gods just screwed me. Good Lord I was kidding when I said I would rather hear Titans Bill than Jacks bull chit! This last hour at work has been miserable now.

Has it been confrmed that Gruden gets his last Bucs payment if he is not employed as a coach through November 29? If that is true, then Gruden and UT have to make this look like it is in doubt until November 30.

I have a hard time even buying the concept that he has to wait to get his last Bucs paycheck.

First of all, he's employed now. Why would the Bucs care if he's a coach or a commentator? Second, he'd be an NCAA coach not an NFL coach. I seriously doubt he had a clause in his contract that said he couldnt be a college coach but he could be a commentator. Makes no sense.

I think that whole Bucs paycheck thing is a bunch of bunk. He's gonna get paid regardless.

When the Nov. 30 announcement date was said on here last week and we had to wait 10 days it seemed like such a long wait. Now it is only like 4 days and still seems like an eternity to wait for this. All in due time I guess. Hang in there guys. Soon!

Gruden doesnt need to be talked down...he offered to come down.

I might believe it if it was for another NFL job

But not because he takes a CFB job

This is spot on.

I think Basilio's post made more sense and seemed more credible than ANYTHING else I have read regarding the coaching search.

Quite honestly, when people on here post that it's x-amount of money that will be announced on x-date and the coaches are: x,y,z - it all sounds like a load of baloney. I'm not saying it's all fabricated - but it's certainly not 100% true.

The process that Basilio put together today sounds absolutely legitimate. As stated in the quote above - this is exactly how the process SHOULD work. Gruden is a master... but maybe stoops would take the job for half the money? Maybe the general was actually cloned and his counterpart is being unfrozen from a cryogenic freeze as we lurk on VN. Perhaps Belichick is thinking of a new co-HC theory of coaching where him and Saban BOTH come to UT and share duties.... lol

The point is: There could be another great opportunity. There's no shame in some efficient due diligence before spending $30+ million of someone else's money.

If you know you're going to by a Vette Why would you look at a pinto . Plus this post was dead the sec you said Basilio's post made more sense and seemed more credible than ANYTHING else I have read regarding the coaching search.

One thing I dont understand is why anybody even thinks anyone else would be interested. I mean hell, when kiffydoosh left, we couldnt beg the #8 guy to come and settled for #9...so now all of a sudden we got to wait on #2,3,4,5 to say no?? Where were they at 3 years ago? What about us improved to make us a coaching target?? Gruden wants to be here...

FTR, all this media stuff is BS.

3 years ago we were looking at a budget coach, 2-3 mill a year doesn't attract those guys.

No thanks.

You do know those wins came when he was coaching temple. Whoever he beat as their coach is irrelevant they won 3 games the 3 years before he got there

All those teams you mentioned were light years ahead of temple when he got. Who cares who he beat when he resurrected the worst program in college footbal

let the UTAD pass on Jon Gruden and see what happens to ticket and merchandise sales. They will have to bulldoze the stadium down due to the amount of money they will lose if they pass on Gruden while he wants the job. It's foolish really to even consider that the AD is that damn stupid. Idiotic if true. Absolutely utter idiocy if they do this.

if it's already done as you said, how could the AD pass?
