Official Jon Gruden Thread XI

I swear I'm gonna need BP pills if I keep reading this thread..lol
It kills me that this roller coaster ride is the same every single day. You would think we would get wise to the way this works eventually. With that being said, I'm gonna think its Gruden until we hire someone else. The media has no idea what's going on and I honestly think that scares them into saying the crap they are saying this morning.

Its because every day, this time of day, Knox radio blares out stupid bullshat that gets everybody riled up...the doubters go negga...the neggas go full blown batshat crazy, and the Grudenites face more persecution...

Every....stinking...day...

One other poster mentioned that his girlfriend has a class with a player that had to leave early for a meeting. Thats all.

Guy said his girlfriend had a class that Antoine Davis was speaking and said he had to leave class early (he's head of VFL) said he had a football meeting at 11am.

I haven't seen where player(s) were meeting, but thought that it was interesting too.

utter stupidity coming from Basilio today. I am shocked that anyone who considers themselves credible would say that UT would pass on Gruden.

And I suppose you're going to leave out what he said to me right before that, that made me respond that way. Of course you will.

Posted above as well, but I am not trying to give you a hard time.

You are just making it sound as though you said "I don't think he is coming" and somebody told you to go hang yourself.

UT has no room to pass on a guy like Gruden. While this a somewhat desirable job still, it has lost a LOT of luster. Can be completely resuscitated with the right guy though.

(Still a better job than Arkansas haha)

Not the case at all. But he acts and responds like most of the posters on this site. That's a shame.

Dan Patrick said Lamonte contacted us, but we are putting Gruden to the side.
That sounds to me like spin. Even if we've reached an agreement behind the scenes, we have to adhere to certain rules for hiring. If we announced Gruden right after the Dooley's firing, then there would be plenty of stink about the program not giving other coaches a chance to even interview. Not sure how long or how many has to be interviewed, to fall within those rules, but we would HAVE to put him aside, as it were, for this "process" to play out...regardless.

Another thought that crosses my mind is, could the boosters and AD not be actually working the negotiation, in order to get Gruden's agent to lower their initial demands?

I do think it would be somewhat irresponsible to just say "What do you want? Just name your price and we'll pay it.". If he is indeed interested, then I think you got to at least appear to not be so desperate.

let the UTAD pass on Jon Gruden and see what happens to ticket and merchandise sales. They will have to bulldoze the stadium down due to the amount of money they will lose if they pass on Gruden while he wants the job. It's foolish really to even consider that the AD is that damn stupid. Idiotic if true. Absolutely utter idiocy if they do this.

You are right. We have just endured a 2-14 SEC stretch over two seasons AT TENNESSEE. Let that fact alone sink in for a minute.

And, the stadium is around half full. Just wait until the season tickets continue to dwindle and they don't even sell those seats. Then, the academics will relish the day they ever got one cent out of the AD.

The administration better wise up fast. They have beat up the goose that lays the golden eggs for years and it is on life support. A Golden hire would push it over the edge.

It's Basilio's spin on what Dan Patrick actually said (at least the multiple parts I HEARD of DP's show where he talked about Gruden to UT).

Exactly. He was saying to get out because I didn't agree. I responded accordingly.

He didn't tell you to get out.

He said that nobody was forcing you to be in the thread if you didn't like the conversation.

Again, I think things just got off on the wrong foot this AM.

All is well, and nobody is trashing you. Let's move on.

You're alright man. Skepticism is a good thing. I have just gone all in. If it doesn't happen I will look at other candidates with an open mind. I won't be super happy about it but I really don't have a say and can't change my alma mater.

this^^^

So is there a presser today or not?

Friday Nov. 30 2012 a presser is confirmed with the hiring of Jon Gruden as head coach at the University of Tennessee. He won't even have to borrow an orange tie like all our other football and basketball hires. Cindy has made sure he keeps orange in his wardrobe.
