It should be what if he had beat Kentucky.

Seriously could UT have fired Dooley had he won the East? Even if Gruden and UT were interested in each other from the spring. I hated Dools but had he won the East I couldn't say the guy should be fired.

Gruden is and has been the only candidate. Any other name that has, or will come out us simply cover. This hire has been in the works since the spring.

Both sides have pursued each other. It is not a one sided arrangement.

It is done.

Gruden 2012

The rock in a sea of namby pamby uncertainty.

Agreed. If he won the east, he should have stayed. However, I never saw that being a big concern for Hart.

I didn't think he would either but to say the thing was in the works since spring means Dooley was on his way out regardless of outcome. Just seems odd. Maybe it was barring some miracle that Dooley doesn't win all of the sudden We want you to coach our team in 13'. That seems feasible.

Question though. Theoretically what Boro said was been in the works since the spring. What if Dooley had went 9-3 or won the east? No Gruden right? Seems sketchy.

This was a deal that had been getting worked on in the case that Dooley didn't survive.

How is this hard to comprehend?

We are UT!

I don't think we had anything to worry about after going 5-7 the year before and a new coaching staff for 2012 for DD

Couldn't it have been in the works under ther pretense that if a job came open Gruden would take it?? Especially since we are taking about boosters doing the communicating

That seems more logical but the way was typed it sounded like Hades or high water Gruden would be our guy in 13.

Ok OG, set your decoder rings to 24.

The smoke is in the bottle, the nurses dance nekked in windows at midnight and the pilot is guiding the tour.

That is all.

But just because this was in the works doesn't mean it would happen had Dooley had a successful season. Once he lost to Kentucky, I think it started becoming apparent to those in power that he wasn't going to work out. So you start working back channels with the expectation that if Dooley flops, as he did, you've got one hell of a safety net. If Dooley succeeds, then you keep him and back off of Gruden.

Won the east this year? After the Kentucky loss I think most saw the writing on the wall and that is why it started in the spring, plus some comments from Gruden. Plus if you believe what happened with UNC after Kentucky, it was time. You just don't do that. So, is it possible? Maybe, but most I would believe knew he would fail this year again, and they were right.
