I am with you on this Smokey....

It has never been the fact that he left... but the way he left...I think he is in trouble at USC now...If he does not win against ND....may not cost him the job, but will certainly land him directly on the hot seat

In the middle of the night if I recall.

I actually understand the question, here's the best answer I can come up with.

Tennessee fans have an abandonment/inferiority issues like no other.

When Peyton had his press conference and announced he was staying, he made such an impression on so many people he went to a different level in a lot of fans' minds. To say nothing of the way he represented the school in his 4 years. He was an extremely high profile player most of his time.

Tee is loved and respected, but I think people view him as more of a cog in the machine that was the 1998 team. He has nothing to be ashamed of.

Thank you my friend for a well put answer

LOL! Daddy will know...and will live with the guilt thereof every time his son gloats about having a descendant of Smokey....hehe...

or go the real cheap route and paint one like Jinxy
in Meet the Fockers...lol

of course you may have the only supposed Blue tick
that wont tree also...

Very true. Some was play calling and some was having a QB that didnt have ice in his vein's. Damn I miss Casey C if for nothing else being that he was a QB that as fans you wantwd the ball in his hands and the opposing teams fans hated to see it. I know he has never played a down but think Peterman could be THAT next guy. Jmo

Yeah, Bray was a problem....how could I forget that?! HA!

That's understandable but my complaint with Kiffin leaving was the fact it was a few weeks before NSD and it put us in a bind.

Im not defending his decission! I get what you are saying and agree, but it wasn't his fault that it happened when it did. I mean, he had no control over when his "dream job" would come open and that he would be offered it. I don't believe that Kiffin had malicious intent toward the UT! I think we were just in the wrong place at the wrong time! He is a West Coast guy and SO IS HIS WIFE!

Maybe I'm being unfair but with a couple of potential first round receivers and several future pro offensive linemen I just thought we should have been able to close the deal at least ONCE against an SEC opponent no matter how bad our defense was playing. UG, MSU, Missouri even Florida we had chances to really clamp down and we didn't.

Dude you know we have to have at least a defense right? We had the worst defense in the history of UT football, the WORST in SEC Play. Enough said.

That was a huge factor. Everyone thought going into that press conference Peyton was a goner, especially after Shuler had left just a few years prior.

A QB considered the likely number 1 draft pick staying in school for his senior year was unheard of at the time.

You don't have to lecture me about our defense but our offense had the ball at the end several times with a chance to win and DIDN'T. You can blame that on Dooley, Bray or Chaney or all but it is a fact.

In the middle of the night if I recall.

Kiffen always seemed to have an odd personality. He talked trash but at the same time he seemed kind of antisocial and inverted. His dad came across just the opposite. Strange one that Lane Kiffen. Remember Vol Walks and other functions he just always seemed odd.

Still trying to get over this. Boro said the same as I would have. I think the talks of us all getting together after this to celebrate just took a turn. Maybe it would be best if we all just went our separate ways. I think it might be what safest for Boro and the gang.:)

Guess I dated myself. Go rent the movie "Stripes" with Bill Murray and you might get it!

I never saw offense as an issue this year.

I did a few times. UF being the most notable. Our offense almost single-handedly lost us the UF game. Of course like most teams, besides LSU and Texas A'M teams struggled against Ala and we looked awful against Vandy.

Wait so was the offense on the field when Trey Burton was?

The same for Driskell?

Did we take our offense to Vandy ... I didn't see them.
