Official Jon Gruden Thread IX

Looks like Gruden has officially declined the 'offer' from Arkansas.

ESPN Insider is usually spot on when it comes to coaching searches.

FWIW, ESPN "Insider" is crap.

Their list of potential HC's for UT would have been shorter if it were a list of those who "wouldn't" be considered.

The rumors section is just that, rumors, but a lot of the insider material is legit.

If the Gruden speculation doesn't pan out, Charlie Strong would be my 2nd choice. May be able to keep several offensive assistants with a Strong hire as well. Either way, we will get a competent coach.

I would be happy with Strong.

But let's face it, it's Gruden until it's not.

Solid stance. If I hadn't been told the things I have I would be super skeptical too.

With that said an acceptance is an agreement on an outline of terms. Think of it like this. A prospective employer gauges my interest in a job and wonders what my compensation requirements would be. We can execute a MOU to keep the job from being published until I can formally review all aspects not just compensation and formally accept or decline. Basically I think on the university side the "All In" statement means they accomplished everything he wanted both with compensation and structure and all that is left is a formal acceptance and announcement.

Dude, you must be an awesome Dad. Major patients. Much and many thanks. :hi:

I understand, brother. It is easy to get uneasy about this and it happens to me too (and it looks like most others on here except the OGs). I'm fighting the demons of doubt and keeping the faith.

What I heard yesterday that got me shakey was a NO to Gruden and a YES to Charlie Strong.... came directly from an assitant AD's mouth...just saying

Most under rated quote from Hart's press conference!

" This is the ultimate challenge that competitors embrace for a football coach. If you are a competitor and you want to prove your worth, come to the Southeastern Conference and Tennessee."
Yep, I caught that right away.

My family is hardcore UT fans. My wife, who is an Auburn fan, family is 50/50 Auburn/Bama. We have raised our child to dislike all things Bama. In the process I have showed my daughter that Auburn is the darkside. She is a HUGE UT fan.

Tomorrow we are heading to Gulf Shores with her family. There will be about 40 people at the beach house to watch the Iron Bowl. All Bama or Auburn fans...never seen a family go from loving eachother to not talking so quick.

Good man.

The only competition we'll have will be Mississippi State--where both of my parents graduated, but simple geography will take care of that for us. She'll wind up like me...yeah, she'll cheer for State when they're not playing UT, but her blood will run orange. She's already told my wife and me (dressed all in orange) "this is where I'm gonna play ball." (my wife was a two sport athlete, basketball & softball in college so she's trying to take after her mama).
