Official Jon Gruden Thread VIII

I disagree. If he forfeits 2-3 additional weeks just to finish MNF, that's precious time he can't get back. He and his prospective staff would have a lot of evaluating to do before even hitting the recruiting trail. And even with his name recognition, the last two losses dig a deep, deep hole for him to climb out of. Can't blame those on a brutal schedule.

He's going to have to go into living rooms and sell many of these 4-5*s in person.

We had a killer WR haul before the wheels came off this season. He's going to have to get with it, to snatch MArquez North and Rumph before they commit elsewhere...that includes Derrick Green, too.

Its just not a big deal. We have got to keep our eyes on the big picture.

We hired a coach last time to save a recruiting class and look at where we are. If we have to wait on Gruden, then we should wait.

Also, Jay Graham is more than capable of selling recruits on UT and Gruden.

Its almost like he is trying to get fired! Surely he is that stupid.

My thoughts is that he has known for several weeks as you and others have aluded to and he would like to be done with it and Hart is making him stay. He is taking every opportunity to give the administration a one finger salute. JMO

I think DY has not been cleared from concussion. Don't forgot about the going for it on 4th in OT against MO. Basically giving them the game. And the fake punt against last night.

That was one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen and there's been a lot of bone head moves by DD..If indeed he is saying FU to UT by doing these things, then he is showing what an arse he really is..He needs to grow up and handle things with class instead of trying to sabotage games that he has the past few weeks.

Have the talk of the accelerated position on Gruden earlier this week and the debacle that was last night combined for a possible much more accelerated time line for Gruden?

Hope so.

He posted that at one point on here. He has been really good on the recruiting side but terrible on everything else. That should tell us what type of job he has. Just depends on the connection, my brother in law worked in the ad in the late 90s and still has two close friends in the ad. When those two are gone he won't have any connection.

I also have a friend who has been in the AD for years. He knows recruiting and other interesting info, but nothing about the new coach...if he does then he aint telling me

First question for Hart:

"WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG?????????"

I don't subscribe to conspiracy theories much, but you have to wonder if Hart knew, as well as all of us, what was going to happen if he left Dooley in place.

There are grumblings about some boosters not being on board with paying Gruden, or even getting rid of Dooley at all.

If that is true, what better way to show them the future if we don't do something drastic.

As a result of last night, I wonder how many blank checks were promised to Hart this morning.

My buddy watch the game at my house last night. He has a subscription to TOS. VN was getting info at the same time they were. He said "I'm wasting my money".

It's ridiculous. How would you sell a Golden hire to the fanbase?

Hey guys! I know you're happy that we got rid of a coach with a career losing record and 0-1 in bowl games. We think we can do better with this other coach with a career losing record and 0-1 in bowl games.

Yeah, I'd officially be done. I wouldn't root for any other college teams just not give a damn about this one any more. I'd just stick with NFL.

Seems like it would be some sort of violation for a coach to be on National tv like that.. Seems like it would be some sort of recruiting advantage or something.

Mike K at Duke markets for American Express and coaches for Team USA. I don't know that it is, but I really don't know.

Boggles the mind that some are saying they aren't that high on Gruden but they just love Golden.

Some people like to drive slow on Sunday mornings...others like to jump in their Porsche and hall ass.

If I had a Porsche...that would be me!

Battle couldn't best Auburn, Dooley can't best anyone big difference. I'd take Battle any day, and twice on Sunday over Dooley.

I understand what you are saying... Battle couldn't beat Alabama either..... I would take ANYONE over 12 yrs of age over Dooley as far as that goes

More thinking of how they both were connected to successful Alabama coaches and how Tennessee tried to make themselves over in an Alabama image...as for me SCRE* Alabama. I do not want a coach connected to another schooll so we can be a whatever jr.

We are Tennessee and we need to build out own idenity, start our own coaching trees and to He!! with bama or whoever

ONLY GRUDEN CAN DO THAT... I say hire him if it takes 11 million a year

Something was wrong with Bray last night. Maybe him and Dooley had words pre game and that's why Dooley pulled him. Who knows? I'm not saying Tyler is having a great year but he is completing 65% of his passes, 30 TD to 12 INT. That's pretty good numbers to be considered a bad year. If he leaves early, he is a 3rd round pick at worse. If he has a good combine. He is a late 1st, early 2nd round pick. And no way Hunter and CP comes back. Hunter is still the number one rated WR on McShays board.
Bray simply has regressed. He looked like a 1st Rd prospect as a freshman and before he got hurt last year...even in some games this year. But as a body of work, it's clear, he simply is NOT ready for the NFL. I don't say that because I hope he comes back, but because I have been totally underwhelmed most of the year, how he has a mental meltdown when pressured a bit.

I highly doubt Hunter is still atop McShay's board as this stage. Probably hasn't been updated. He's been AWOL in many of the games. In fact, I believe he really hurt the team on that first drive in the 3rd Qtr. He caught the ball just shy of the first down marker and instead of getting north and south, to convert that 3rd down...he does his typical bouncing around. He is not CP. He doesn't have the ability to shake opponents that way. He's long and lanky, and needs to just get upfield....taking what is there.

He only had to lung forward to get the 1st down. Instead he's trying to do his best CP imitation and in the process, allows the Vandy Defense to swarm around him, and thus deny the first down. That killed the momentum we needed. Instead we punt and our defense goes into automatic 2nd half suck mode.

If I were an NFL scout or GM, there is no way I'm drafting Bray, or taking Hunter early.

There was certainly no better way to showcase how badly the program needs a home run than the past few weeks.

If this was Hart's reasoning then great job on him.
