Recruiting Forum: Football Talk II

I just talked to someone on campus who works in the athletic dept, but he is not a decision maker. He just hears a lot of talk about "potential situations".

-He said Jon Gruden was on campus at Tennessee 2 weeks ago, and once before the season. He also said Gruden may be interested, but the AD has no idea what level of interest and if he would actually do it.
-A lot of coaches want nothing to do with Tennessee because of how Fulmer was and now Dooley are being treated. The coaches feel like "UT isn't keeping commitments to their current coaches so why should I come coach there".
-Chavis will be contacted as a possible candidate and if he isn't interested just as an alumni consultant.
-He thinks Cutcliffe wouldn't be interested because of his ties to coach Fulmer and he is happy where he is at Duke.

This is all I could get out of him, but it's info.

Well, Chavis seemed to be very put off by UT, that being said I am not saying he would not take the job but he always seems like someone that wants to be DC and that is it.

Seems like it would depend if money is an issue for him.

What commitments are we not keeping to our coaches? Dooley has vastly underperformed here so he's about to get the ax..don't see the problem there.

Yea I doubt Chavis would be a serious HC candidate, but its probably out of respect. Maybe a DC candidate for whoever comes.

The guys I talked to was referring other coaches feelings regarding that UT isn't giving Dooley 4 years like his contract states.
I think Dooley hasn't earned right right to have 4 years. 4-18 in the SEC
edit: oh and lack of administrative support

yea dooley just sucks he needs to be fired

but fulmer did average like 9-10 wins didnt he? and the yr before he was fired was really the last pretty good yr of tenn football

I don't get that either. Each of the last 3 years we have entered the Vandy game 4-6 needing to win out to avoid a losing record. What do you expect to happen when you do that at Tennessee?

I don't think Vince Lombardi would work out for KY. They just don't give two shiz about football. They only care what Cal is up to.

this is not really true - i went to college at a small school near UK so most of the student body were UK fans - I saw more than 2 grown men crying when LSU beat them on that hail mary a few years back (more than i care to think)

so they care - just once you've been let down by something so many times it hurts too much to let yourself believe - bengals and lions fans suffer this same fate

so they go to bball b/c at least they will be good there - but that is a passionate fanbase if they could ever compete

I agree that Fulmer should have been let go. The recruiting had dropped off way to much for him to be kept. It wasn't going to get any better with him as head coach.

However, someone just looking at the overall record could make a pretty good argument for keeping him since we won 9 or 10 games in '07 and the firing could look bad to an outsider.

We look pretty silly regarding the Fulmer situation.

Hindsight is 20-20. It is, what it is and we need to move forward.
This decision is a defining point for Cheek, Hart and the BOT.

This is very true. I grew up in southern IN around quite a few UK fans and the vast majority of them love football.

What school did you go to?
