A "home run" is a guy that puts stars in the recruits eyes, someone who has won an NC or has clearly shown that he possesses the abilities to do so (Meyer, Saban). Patterson has been coaching in a non AQ conference for most of his career and judging by rankings, doesn't seem to be a great recruiter. Strong is barely beating teams in by far the worst AQ conference in the land. They would be good hires and I would be happy with either, but "home runs" usually don't come with question marks like that.
I'm guessing no movement... is that bad?
SIAP, as I'm catching up. I have seen a lot of people essentially post that this would be the first time we have ever been 0-6 in the SEC, when we were 0-6 LAST SEASON. It's as if everyone has blocked last year's 1-7 campaign out of their memory to deal with the trauma. Being 0-6 before the Vandy game is nothing new for us.
I consider status quo a good thing Coasty

I hope not. I really don't want Strong.

Now as for all the other chatter regarding Cheek, the academics view of athletics, etc. It was not discussed today in the big board meeting but in talking to some who were in committee meetings earlier today. It was discussed and I had a couple of members tell me that Cheek is gaining a much better understanding of athletics (remember he's never been involved in athletics before) and these representatives believe that some compromises will be made to allow everyone to reach their goals. As one person told me, Chancellor Cheek has a much better understanding of athletics and it's importance to the University than he had a year ago.
For Cheek and the University the goal is to be a top-25 research institution and for athletics it's to make sure they are on a level playing field in the SEC.
This has to make more sense then what I posted earlier. My goodness that was a train wreck.

Same here mainly b/c he is a lights-out recruiter.
Anybody see Hubbs bigger explanation of the BOT meeting?
Pretty much confirms/supports what was said earlier this week about Cheek getting in line.
Said the larger issues at hand were discussed in the day's earlier committee meetings and things were explained to Cheek and that he's "gained a better understanding" of athletics, and that compromises could be made in the future.
Uh...wow.
