Ever hear a bluetick go off in the middle of the night Smokey?

They can sound the alarm let me tell you.

I love to hear Smokey howl during a game and will especially look forward to it when Chucky is roaming the sidelines of Neyland Stadium.

I bet Smokey right now would love to pee all over Dooley's shoes.

UPDATE: Tennessee isn't simply going to settle for any head coach. The Volunteers believe they can pull a high profile coach to Rocky Top. And three targets appear to be on the short list if Derek Dooley isn't retained.

"Tennessee's short list is believed to include (former NFL head coach Jon) Gruden, (former Arkansas head coach Bobby) Petrino and (Oklahoma State head coach Mike) Gundy," 247Sports.com wrote. "If a move is made on Dooley, Gruden will get the first call, but his salary demands may be too much for Tennessee to swallow."

UPDATE: The Jon Gruden to Tennessee rumors continue to have legs. And there is no reason why Coach Gruden wouldn't be interested in the job due to his history with the program (and the potential money the school would unload to sign him). Plus, it might be an appealing challenge for the coach.

"I've been told that the grind of being a coach in the NFL isn't as appealing to him as being able to go out and recruit the top players in the country and develop them," Clay Travis of OutkicktheCoverage.com wrote.

Gruden would have complete control over a program at Tennessee like he never had at the NFL level. That alone could make the possibility even more enticing.

Why Gruden could come to Tennessee

"If Tennessee decides to make a coaching change, I think Gruden has to be at the top of athletic director Dave Hart's list. I think he'd fit in well in the SEC, and could be a heck of a recruiter with his personality. Gruden has ties to Tennessee -- he met his wife while working with Tennessee's staff -- and he knows East Tennessee very well. He's very close to that area, and I have no doubt he would be interested in the job if it came open. Now, he could be pretty expensive to bring in, and with Tennessee's financial issues, plus Dooley's buyout, it could be tough to swing it. But if there's a chance of being able to afford Gruden, and Hart believes it's best to sever ties with the current coaching staff, then I think Tennessee would go after Gruden. But Dooley isn't out the door. He could still guide this team to eight wins, and if he does that, he should be back in Knoxville next year."

They had me until the last 2 sentences.

I felt like I had been talking to the hottest sounding chick that I met on the internet. She e-mailed me semi-nude photos of her hot self. We arranged s rendezvous to meet and possibly engage in some of the things she said in that sexy, sultry voice. After opening the hotel room door, my 'excitement' was off the charts. When Janet Reno walked out of the bathroom in a teddy my excitement levels deflated instantly.

I envy your tolerance of hormonal smart-alec teens. Substitute teaching in junior high took decades off my life.

One day the school secretary let slip that she was calling me for the extra-awful classes, and that's when I switched to subbing at the high school. Other than the ninth-graders, they weren't bad at all.

Now I save my ire for the IT guys at work. When I can find them, that is.

Lol.

7th graders are spawns of Satan. I deal with the older teens.

Thanks for a Gruden related post.

Again SIAP. Sharing for those without Insider

Prospects can't help but hear the talk in Tennessee. When they hear Jon Gruden's name, they take notice.

"That would be great," safety Jalen Tabor from Washington (D.C.) Friendship said when asked of the possibility that Gruden could be hired to replace third-year coach Derek Dooley. "It would be a bonus."

Miller Safrit/ESPN.com
Jalen Tabor is among many prospects considering Tennessee, but recruits are wary if a coaching change comes about.Tabor, a 2014 Watch List prospect, has said Tennessee is firmly in his top five, along with Alabama, Maryland, Ohio State and Florida.

Gruden's name continues to be a topic of conversation as the Volunteers struggle. Tennessee is 3-5 and 0-5 in the SEC. Dooley has received much of the scrutiny and criticism.

When asked how much a Gruden hiring might help recruiting, Tabor said "A lot."

Fellow ESPN Watch List defensive back Todd Kelly Jr. from Knoxville (Tenn.) Webb has heard much of the talk about a potential coaching change at Tennessee. He's also heard Gruden's name mentioned.

"Word is that he is the man to hire but that would be the fourth coach at UT I think in the last five years," Kelly Jr. said.

Tennessee fired Phillip Fulmer as head coach in 2008. He was replaced by Lane Kiffin, who left for USC following one season. Dooley was hired in January 2010.

When asked specifically about Gruden, Kelly Jr. said, "I really don't know how much about what he would bring to the university. If it did happen, though, then I think people would be fired up about the program again like any school would be with the hiring of a new coach."

Until then, uncertainty reigns with Tennessee football recruiting.

I had to do 3 shots of bourbon and smoke a cigarette after reading this.
