My hope is that Gruden becomes so enamored with Tennessee that he is here for a long, long time. Good to know about the contract options. Thanks Boro.
I want to say something in the Cliffs page, but I know it would ruin the purpose of the thread to begin with, so I figured this was a good idea.
There's some pretty good stuff in there. It sounds great. I want to believe. How much are you guys buying into it? (please refrain from calling someone an idiot for believing or not believing)
I love Gruden.
But I can't believe people actually think "If not Gruden, then keep Dooley."
Really?
I did too at first. I "know" that guy from basketball talk and it is usually not his style to just make stuff up.
But, if Cindy's mom is telling people that...then some news hound would have been knocking on her front door last week.
That is part of why I was asking if Cindy's mom is truly still living in the area?
One thing a little scary about a long tenure is that I can see the mega boosters coughing up a lot for right now, but will they continue to underwrite the biggest salary in the NCAA indefinitely? I don't see how UT alone could pay this salary, along with that of the staff.
I mean, what if electric cars take over America and Pilot Oil becomes little more than a place for bags of chips and atrocious restrooms??![]()
I'm not buying any of it until there is an announcement scheduled. Still it's nicer to hear good rumors than bad rumors. My main worry though is that too much attention is focused on Gruden at this point. I hope there are good, solid Plans B, C, D, etc. in case we don't get our first choice. And I hope the powers that be don't wait too long to initiate those plans. Gruden would be great, but it's a real longshot.
I also hope the fans don't get so wrapped in Gruden that it dwarfs the other good coaches that we might hire. Compared to Gruden, a Butch Jones doesn't look like much, but he's got alot of potential and he would be a huge upgrade over who we have.

Exactly. Sounds like Gruden is our guy but if not there are many other and better options. Aside from his lack of coaching but his overall lack of respect for people should keep him from being allowed to be our coach.

#1 BTO is credible and I would put major stock into what he says IMO
#2 The journalists around here are terrible and wouldn't even know how to find her
#3 She is gonna keep her mouth shut to the media, she told her employers who then told BTO at church, I think if I had that kind of information I would tell it to people close to me, but I would never tell it to the media just as she has.
I'm trying to stay positive and keep hoping it is Gruden. I'll eventually be pumped for whoever.
That being said, if Gruden says no, this place is going to melt like Fukushima for a few days afterward.
What if Gruden takes Tennessee to competing for NC's every season? What if he makes Tennessee's football program a perennial top 5 ranked team every year? Do you think revenue generated from ticket sales, merch, TV and so on could compensate the salary? I do.![]()
Yeah Hulk, I hope you are right. If it was decided a week ago, just hard to believe they could keep it a secret this long. We shall see
