As I have heard it, the issue was the percentage that the AD was to pay to academic side at year end. Some questions related to how AD shortfalls from having bunches of former coaches to pay off was the primary concern.

The last I read they appeared to have worked something out. Maybe they hired the accountants who worked for Enron and ING.

TIFWIW...

Good deal!

When did they work it out?

Easy at least for a while. All he has to do is not sign the contract. If UT botches this deal I will seriously question it's leadership.

Just don't see Cheeks having the nards to stand up to the moneybags.........of course these education administrators think they have some sort of control.

What did he supposedly block?

It's someone else's quote. If I remember correctly, something about how the AD wanted to use more revenues for paying for new coaching staff, and Cheek wanted the usual percentage to go to the academic side. As Chancellor, Cheek is in charge of looking out for academics, along with some sort of authority over the UTK campus, I think.

But like I said, that was someone else's story, and I'm fuzzy on the details.

This should be interesting....:loco:

So Jimmy Cheek is basically Mike Hamilton 2.0?

Well, he is the head of a major department in the system. He is "held accountable" by the faculty. Faculty have a DNA encoded bias against athletics. Especially spending big money on athletics. You can't reason them with the Football makes money argument. It's in their genome.

Could there be anything less inspiring to watch than the 2013 Volunteers coached by Derek Dooley?

Maybe televangelist programming set to the music of John Tesh.

I mentioned several days ago that Cheek might get the AX. Don't know much more about it other than some very powerful people don't like him and he likes to piss in other people's pot

Academic administrators do it so they look cool to the faculty. It's how they keep their job. This one might bite him.
