Hart had recommended reducing that amount to help with budget shortfalls and help in financing the coaching change. The poster went on to make a statement that led me to believe they had figured a way to overcome the obstacle, but I don't remember the wording. Yes, the way to overcome it is for the DISH network and PILOT Corporation to not renew their corporate sponsorship of UT Athletics.

basically tos said that their source said it was done and would happen at noon today, that was 23 hrs ago

13hrs ago it said they wont commit the $ to hire a bigtime coach due to cheek and that basically he would rather us be on par with vanderbilt athletics. the only way we get a new coach is if we lose another game this year.

Hope this is politically correct to paraphrase someones twitter account, has anyone heard, read, otherwise?

I am in Mobile right now working and yes, playing some golf. Today in the clubhouse a co-worker of mine was talking with an Auburn booster/Dad of current center on their football team and he said they are doing everything they can to get Gruden to Auburn. He said that not only is Chizik being shown the door, but the AD as well. I know this sounds crazy, and believe me, I stepped in and said if Gruden goes anywhere, it will be TN. His response was simply, "money talks, and we have it, so if we throw enough at him he will come." This is just a testimate of what rumors are going on out there about several programs -- Butch Davis- Done deal at ARK- Gonna get Lance Thompson as DC. We better get our Sh#* straight, or we are going to miss the boat because it sounds like other programs are just as serious as us about making a change this year. BTW-- little know fact, Gruden has as an out-clause in his contract with ESPN, that if UT, among a few other schools offer him a job, he is out....

Cheeks is actually doing his job. If he is making objections, it is merely an effort to have the boosters pony up a little for the other sports. That is all. It is a negotiating tactic. It is fundraising at it's core:

"We would really like to do something, but we just can't take away from the other sports. What is that? Oh no, we couldn't ask you to do that. You have been so generous already. Oh, well, if you insist, I guess we can make it work."

Since it is necessary: IMO

1. I thought Cheek was on the way out anyway
2. If football isn't making money the entire AD suffers
3. If Tennessee football prospers everybody benefits.
