IMO, 2 things are going on right now.
1.) Hart doesn't want to fire Dooley right now and risk Gruden turning us down. That would, of course, lead to another panic/rushed hire. What happens when Hart and the boosters kick Dooley to the curb without knowing for sure that Gruden is going to accept the job? What if he declines after Dooley is canned? They can't then just go out and get the other guys on the list then and there - they're currently employed. This also would mean that Gruden has yet to accept the job.
2.) Remember how embarrassed we were during the second coaching search? Big name after big name kept turning us down until we settled. The media coverage of that coaching search goes down as one of the most embarrassing times in UT athletics history as a fan. I can't imagine how it was for the AD. They do not want to risk that again. I can guarantee that.
After further review, I'm with Basilio on this one.
