Gordon's hit

This is what happens if a CB doesn't take Lattimore's legs out from under him...

It was a clean tackle that ended up being a freak accident. Cornerbacks have no choice but to go low on someone the size of Lattimore.

I saw a near identical injury when I was playing football in HS.

I was a pulling guard and I pulled to the left side and was setting up my block down field. My RB I was blocking for was much faster than I was and he just couldn't wait .5 seconds for my block so he passed me.

As he passed me on the sweep left he saw the defender that I was about to block. He planted his right foot to cut and the defender dove for his leg. My RB's lower leg bent out to the right and his body went left. It looked like a capital L....

.5 seconds and I would have had the block made and I wouldn't be here typing this.

It took him about 8 months of surgery and rehab to put everything back together but he was back for his Sr. year.

I wish the best for Marcus...

The hit was clean, In my experience back in HS and today on Marcus. People just playing FB... this is the way it is.

Thanks!

I can almost promise you that the only person who feels worse about that hit then him.. is lattimore himself.

Lattimore will be in my prayers, I really hope some miracle happens and he gets the chance to play football again. He is a good guy, and a great RB. Life is so unfair sometimes...

nothing wrong with the form of Gordon's tackle, period. Coincidence that Lathers had him wrapped up high simultaneously - unfortunate and sad as hell, but nothing illegal. Proud of our team for calling out USCe to come and visit Lattimore before they carted him off.

Football is a collision sport...things happen. Nothing dirty, but still really sad to see an injury like that to a star athlete.

Prayers to him for a recovery. He will need all we have.

The hit happened at the precise moment ML planted his foot hard and running fast forward. Unfortunate and sad. You play the game and you want to hit and cause pain so a guy may not play as hard against you, but never do you wish to end someone's career with a injury like this. You respect each other as competitors. Anyone who thinks this is a dirty hit and giving EG grief, never played the game or was one of the little guys with a jersey on that stood on the sidelines.

I'll take a knee injury over brain or spinal injury any day, concussions are ten times more common than knee injuries. The game is being changed because of head injuries, now we have to accept more knee injuries due to avoiding the head.
I have had career ending knee injuries, I cannot pass a fire dept physical to get back on the FD. It's very tough mentally, but I found a different proffesion, I can't do what I love , but I found ways to contribute to what I love.
I'm sure Marcus Lattimore is mentally tougher than I am, I'm sure he will make an impact on people's lives as something other than a football player. I pray he has a full and speedy recovery, I pray that he does get to play the game he loves again.

People get tackled by their legs all the time. What else is someone smaller supposed to do? Absolutely nothing dirty or intentional about the hit.

He could have kept his head up. Tackling does not involve dropping your head. Gordon could easily have injured his own neck with that terrible tackling form. Bad tackling is all over football. That was just another example. -- Kids, keep your head UP and see what you hit.

Yeah, that was just bad timing. DB's usually go low, as they don't have the size to tackle up high, plus a RB can't stiff arm them. I've seen many tackles, College and NFL, that could be just as nasty, if the player doesn't lift their feet at the last second.

ML's foot was planted at the same time the hit occured. Never good when that happens

I know lots of folks are concerned and upset on the health of Lattimore, but I think we should also keep Eric Gordon in our thoughts too. This guy is getting a ton heat on twitter. Mostly by 40 year old fat guys who haven't thrown a football since they're kid told them they were embarassed to play catch with them. Anyways, didn't think there was anything dirty about that hit hope this doesn't effect him negatively.

You are good at degrading people also. Not much difference between you and them.

The lb coming in quickly and awkwardly up top as ML bounced outside caused the issue. All the weight of 2 big men was on him when EG came low. Cbs come in low every play on rbs. Just a freak accident.

What's Lattimore's main upside ultimately caused this to happen... he's so hard to bring down... in this case he didn't go down right away... well when someone is draped over you and you take a direct and legal ( perfect actually) blow to the lower body... $#/t happens.

Any other play against any other player it would have been a mop up hit. But Lattimore's ability kept him upright and in position to take that hit.

Feel for him and hope he has a speedy recovery. This was just a freak accident.

On a side note... the same thing almost happened to Jacob Carter... but his leg barely got out of the grass right before the USCe player made contact... both legal tackles.

True, just so unfortunate. And yah, when Carter took that hit I said to my wife, "That kid nearly caught his last ball of the season right there." Truly sucks for Lattimore.

LT ended the career of one of the most popular players on one of the most popular teams in the NFL. He handled it the right way, as will Gordon. It will be a play Gordon remembers the rest of his life, but it was nothing more than an unfortunate accident in a violent sport.

I was at the game and SC fans were talking about how our teams reaction was total class. Unfortunate event and a great player. I hope he has a full recovery. I was proud of how we reacted and treated the situation. #class

Not a bad hit. A perfect storm, if you will. A combination of several things happening at one time to create something devastating.
