I don't believe the Gruden rumors, but at the same time I think there are about 5-7 realistic coaches out there we could get and be much better than a Dooley led squad. I'll bet Hart believes the same thing. If we're willing to pay, we'll get someone good. No doubt about it.

I truly believed we reached our maximum potential with Majors, however I didn't like the way it was done. I also believe the game had passed Fulmer by and we let him hang on a few years too many, which ultimately led us to where we are now.

Whether or not you believe the Gruden rumors doesn't really matter. I believe this is what the fans are rallying for and what UT deserves for the program.

You need to check your records.

TN was 5-3 when Majors was fired.

Majors was out the first 3 games due to heart surgery .
Fulmer coached the team to a 3-0 record
Majors came back went 2-3 and was fired.

I agree. But I also think most fans are too believing of these Gruden rumors. Almost to a point where they'll be disappointed with anyone else. I'll be ecstatic about a Strong, Mullen, Patterson, Peterson, Holgerson hire. If we open up a full coaching search, there will be coaches interested that we haven't even mentioned yet. All better options than Dooley.

again i agree except i have hope for Gruden. in the least, if the deal goes public, we show we are willing to spend good $ on a good coach. plus we have the new athletic complex, and a decent roster. this coaching search would have a much better atmosphere than the last one, obviously. we could be set to make a run at just more than currently unemployed coaches and lower tier coaches.

I guess by credibile you are refering to the the media... The media could not publicly say there are talks with Gruden when UT still has a coach ... if they ever want anymore information from that source....JMHO

Fulmer won three of those games. Two of which were Florida and Georgia. At least one of those, maybe both, we were were not favored to win. That was the first year of division play, when Majors returned we lost three in a row and lost the lead in the east allowing Florida to go to Birmingham.

What was the record for 1992? Majors was the coach. Fulmer was the interim. No need to check records I remember just fine. Auburn was going to hire Fulmer if Dickey didn't make the move.
