Nearly a week after losing to Nick Saban and Alabama, the University of Tennessee Athletic Department has officially downgraded Coach Derek Dooley to interim head coach, according to a report from AD Dave Hart. "We are not happy with the direction the program is heading, but Derek has that charm about him that makes you root for the guy. We felt this was the best choice moving forward for all parties." When asked about who was on the school's list of candidates, Hart refused to comment, but he did confirm that Dooley would be included in the list. "We know this is an odd situation to place Derek in, but if he can show improvement over the remainder of the schedule, I don't see how it could hurt his chances of being reinstated as head coach, unlike orange pants or orange dog statues." Coach Dooley could not be reached for comment.
