Ok all you grudenites, you talk big but give no good reason why gruden would be a good hire for Tennessee. Yes he won a super bowl, with Dungys players. But failed miserably till he was fired after that. Hasn't been a head coach of any ncaa team. So he's untested at the college level. And please,it's great his wife is a VFL, but really that has NO bearing on his coaching ability.NO proof he can recruit or put together a winning staff. So please let us in on why he's such a great hire.

There is no good reason why he would want to coach anywhere. He gets paid millions of $$$ for being on TV and has no of the worries and pressure of coaching any team, much less a team who has as many idiot fans as we do.

Read an interesting article on Bleacher Report about how Tennessee fans wont talk about anybody but Gruden, but how hiring an NFL coach with no college coaching experience might be a bad move for Tennessee. I think it makes some valid points about recruiting and overall management of kids rather than professionals.

What are your thoughts?

OHS had an interim coach. That's much different. Name me one school that had a coach signed in writing before the full time head coach was officially hired?

No, it's not different. Interim or not he's still under contract. There's nothing wrong or against the rules for a university to conduct a HC search and have them sign a MOU/LOI if the current coach has been notified. Again, nothing has been said other than Gruden signing a MOU/LOI. Whether you believe that to be "over the line" or not matters very little.

I'm gonna say this and it isn't meant as negativity. I believe it's highly likely this season turns into one of our worst ever because of all of this. Gruden is about the only prize at the end that would ease the pain of another WY/KY type loss.

We lose to Vandy or Ky this season then Gruden better be the HC cause that scenario is almost impossible to stomach.

Don't talk about yourself like that.

This is the niche he has carved out for himself in this market. Not that what he has been saying about Dooley isn't true. He has been much more conservative on the Gruden talk today-except for saying that an agreement would be in place prior to Dooley being fired so the program could seamlessly move from one to the other....which actually matches what has been reported here by Boro, OCI, SBV, etc. TB just doesn't act like an offer has been made, but I don't know if even he has the cojones to report that on the radio with a coach still in his seat.

Listened to the guy for 15 years. He isn't always right but he will say what he thinks

He's already said he will get back into coaching if the right opportunity presents itself. The man loves to coach...

I haven't read the article but would imagine putting up with 18-22 year old attitudes would be a breath of fresh air compared to "professional" attitudes.

It's an easy/lazy way to make a devils advocate approach to this kind of hire. You will see a lot of this if he comes here. And I have said this before-If a guy like Charlie Weis can bring in talent then Jon Gruden will be fine.
