Random Thoughts XXV

I really think more and more that the Saban comparison is a good one. A coach coming down from the NFL, although Saban is still more of a college guy. Saban had a decent talent base started by the time he got there, and he just kick started it.

Saban is a college guy who dreamed of being a Pro guy. But it didnt work the way he though it would. There is too much of a difference in how you get players, how you relate to players, and how you have to deal with your boss in college -v- pros.

You need a college guy. Nick was a college guy failing in the Pro world, he was easy picking for Alabama. The caught the perfect storm.

I think Strong is an excellent recruiter, excellent X's and O's guy, and he is proving he can win in a place that is not exactly a powerhouse.

Given the UT brand, and all of the recruiting advantages that come with it (new football complex, fan base, SEC, etc) I would think that he could put a winning team on the field immediately, and would contend for the SEC east immediately.

If I were a long time UT fan, I would probably want to go with someone who was an assistant here in good times: (Chavis, Cutcliffe) and I would stay away from a guy with minimal College experience, even though he spent a couple years here as a grad asst (Gruden)

The heart of a head coach is transferred onto his players. It means a lot. When the coach truly cares about what he is doing, and about his players, it shows in recruiting, and then shows on the field. I dont think Gruden has a college heart.

Well said. I would accept Cutcliffe if he could bring a top DC with him. We all know that ain't happening though. He's not a big enough name to make the fan base happy. He had a good record at Ole Piss. If you can win there and at Duke you can win just about anywhere. If you look back at the Fulmer years, we were much better when he was around. When he left,(both times) we started to slide. I still think Strong is the better choice. Just not sure Gruden would stick around with the NFL knocking on his door year after year. I think recruit would know that too.

The only think that I dont like about bringing Charlie Strong in is that it would kill my cStrong to Florida rumors anytime the Gators lose.

There are no holes in Chucks resume'. He would be a great hire.

Try to escape the coaching debate and now I'm finding it has trickled into the zone. This is some kind of mind control technique thought up by Freak. I'm sure of it.

Just had a post deleted in the Gruden thread. Freak should encourage trolling in that insanity.
