SO now I wonder how much of a buyout that Dooley will receive after the UNC deal and the insubordination deal? Thoughts?

Given that this happened two years ago and has been known for some time, I don't see it being much to bark about from UT's standpoint. Unless there is something more recent, they most likely waived their rights to act on it.

Boom goes the buyout.

Dooley must be as lousy a lawyer as he is a football coach if he couldn't understand a contract as simple as that.

SO now I wonder how much of a buyout that Dooley will receive after the UNC deal and the insubordination deal? Thoughts?

I also heard someone mention about a clause of an 8 win regular season in year three. Between these three items maybe we can avoid the buyout, but I have a feeling it may cause more problems to not pay him and him bringing another lawsuit on the AD...

There is way too much action going on at other media outlets for at least a portion of this not to be true. At first I was skeptical of this, but things are really starting to add up and major media sources are starting to pull it together as well...

The only "action" is that an offer was made. It does not mean that he will take the job. I hope he does, but will remain cautiously optimistic until the ink is dry on the bottom line.

I'll put this here; also in the contract thread by OCI.

Article 1 (6); Article VII; Article XVI, F (XV, XVI)

Breach of contract?

Tony just said what a people have said on here that it doesn't matter if Dooley pulled off a miracle at South Carolina..it is DONE

Surely not the full buyout. I would guess if the University wanted to press the matter...with evidence...they could avoid paying ALL of it.

BUT, I don't think they want to get into a long, drawn out process. I think they meet in the middle, the boosters cough up the amount, and they move on to Gruden.

If what was posted earlier is true and Gruden's agent did indeed submit a counter-offer then this is REALLY good news for us as he's definitely interested in the job.

Sometimes you just hold it to you need it. Dooley fulfilled his job by building the roster up. Not with great players, just a base to work from.

I think too much time is being wasted on Dooley as it is, so that business just needs to be finished so we can move on to brighter days.

Yea I am always cautious about this stuff, but when I don;t hear anything at all except VN I am even more skeptical. When CBS's Feldman has mentioned it with ESPN's Chris Low and Brent Sobleski, Erik Ainge, Clay Travis and Tony Basillio. Stuff starts to come in motion and I believe it is a whole lot more likely to be true...

Disclaimer: Take the last two sources with a grain of salt...

Breach of that clause by contacting UNC without notification to the AD wouldn't necessarily mean the buyout was gone. It does after all require only notification, not permission, and it's hard to imagine exactly what damages the school would have suffered from its breach (assuming there isn't another provision dealing with damages and breaches in general). But I'm sure UT may well use that (if it happened) as leverage in negotiating his buyout, which may be why the info was leaked.

Tony actually called the Kiffin hire when no one said he was in the mix.

I like to frequent different college football message board. One of those happens to be ESPN. Well, I go there today and the first thread is "Why is the Gruden/Tennessee threads keep getting erased". Hmmm, makes you wonder.

Been out most the morning. Whatever happened with the Colquitt story that was suppose to be told today? It was supposedly a very good argument for why Gruden would come to UT.

Interesting quote from an Arky board:

Gruden to Tennessee is not far fetched at all.

Many different people are saying that the Haslams are willing to front the money personally for Dooley's buyout ($5 mil).

From everything I've heard read on Tennessee boards from their insiders, it's all but a done deal. Their own beat writers are subtly hinting at it.

Gruden is the name that has been coming up first and foremost for them. These same insiders are saying that the Haslams have already met with Gruden to discuss him coming to UT.

The point is, like someone already mentioned, Tennessee can absolutely afford to buyout Dooley and pay for Gruden. There is TONS of booster money available and a rabid desire to relevant again.
