The Official Washington Nationals Thread

What a joke. I refuse to watch a minute of MLB, but this playoff setup almost looks like it is designed to let the team with the worse record gain some momentum. The team with the best record could easily go home and be forced to sweep in some years. That favors the "underdog."

It does suck, but it is just for this year since the 2d WC was added late. It will return to the normal scheduling in 2013.

What's even more disgraceful is the fact MLB bends over for the Yankees.

The reigning World Series champs are playing the best team in baseball, but lets make it so no one can watch because, ya know, the Yankees are in the playoffs and that's who 100% of the audience wants to see.

**** you MLB.

The Yankees are the biggest TV draw, there's not really any disputing that.

Every single baseball fan is not a Yankee fan.

The fact that Yankees are a bigger draw is completely irrelevant. This is PLAYOFF baseball. You would think that MLB would more interested in getting the most viewers possible. MLB is such a poorly ran organization and at times makes mind boggling decisions. Fans are dropping like flies and they are doing nothing to bring in new ones.

The baseball is dying narrative is old, dumb, and untrue. The MLB is doing fine.

You just said "mlb would be interested in getting the most viewers possible..."

Well, in that case, your previous sentence that the Yankees are a bigger draw is very much relevant.

As soon as we were on the same days as the yankees, the primetime slot wasn't for us. no big surprise.

The only relevant fact is that it's playoff baseball and MLB is not maximizing their opportunity for more revenue. Which is not surprising considering a bunch if morons run the league.

But keep banging that Yankee drum.

Of relevance to the game.

Carlos Beltran and David Freese rank first and fourth in slugging percentage in postseason history
Rank Player PA SLG
1. Carlos Beltran 115 .819
2. Carlos Delgado 43 .757
3. Troy Glaus 88 .756
4. David Freese 82 .750
5. Babe Ruth 167 .744
6. Juan Gonzalez 66 .742
7. Lou Gehrig 150 .731
8. Willie Aikens 49 .725
9. Chris Young 53 .721
10. Hank Aaron 74 .710

What do you think they should be doing instead, I guess is my question?

Beltran is one of my favorite players of all time.

Have multiple games going on at once on different channels.

I admittedly hate the Yankees with a passion and do understand they are a big draw but that shouldn't be a reason to screw fans of other teams during the playoffs.

I guess they're just trying to balance the big draw with every game being able to be seen. I am glad that they are staggered on some days, to be able to watch all of them. I'd rather have 4:00 and 7:00 than both on at 7:00.

The league championship rounds will be easier to schedule, and let's hope the Yankees aren't even a factor there.

But then baseball fans like me who want watch all the games are stuck missing parts of games and flipping back and forth. One game a time is perfect.

And the Yankees being on primetime is the best way for MLB he generate revenue. Not splitting up viewerships with two games going on at once.

Fans like you who want to watch any and every game are a thin herd though.

Again, the Yankees are not the only team with fans.

By scheduling games at noon, MLB is missing out on large portions of viewership from cards fans (who have a large fanbase) and the nats.

Please stop with this argument that the Yankees are the only team entitled to prime time slots. It is the PLAYOFFS.

They aren't the only team entitled to it, but if you're going to pick one team for the largest viewership... it's the Yankees.

Lot of density in here. Anyone able to determine if this thread floats?

it's suddenly at the top of the thread list, for no real reason, other than the possibility that it floats.

I'm a life long Cards fan and hate the Yankees. But you're correct.

I'm not rally sure how else to make the point any clearer. A bigger draw for viewers would be to have all the--ok yinz, say it with me here--p l a y o f f s in prime time.

Yes the Yankees are a big draw, but MLB is missing out on two big markets as well in the cards and nats and any other team that doesn't get the Yankees treatment.

This is just an example of just how incompetent bud selig is.
