'13 JUCO DT Toby Johnson

Why do the two things (coaching and recruiting) have to be mutually exclusive for you all to prove your points? I want both. Refuse to settle for less.

Nobody is settling. But to say recruiting has been bad is not accurate. Yes it could be better. But if Dooley proves he can coach, watch out. He is very charismatic and well liked by recruits and their families.

And herein lies the problem.

If he goes 8-4 or worse he probably has not won a big game against a big boy - again. After 3 seasons the whole world will understand he is a short timer even if retained for another season.

At that point he moves to show pony status with recruits. Nice to talk to and visit with - not much to trust with their futures.

If he goes 8-4 and he retains his job, look for some commits. Recruits are not doom and gloom like the fans. Been said multiple times they are looking for Dooley to be here next year, recruits would be thinking they can come in and make a difference, not that he is just biding time IMO.

Job security is holding CDD back.. If he does well enough this year to warrant an extension, recruiting will become much much easier for him.. Other coaches are holding tht over his head with recruits.

Actually closer to three years... '07 thru '09, 3 of 31 four star recruits went on to be multi year starters.....

That's essentially a great big whif in recruiting for 3 straight years... Very difficult to overcome especially in the SEC with three to four of your rivals consistantly recruiting in the top 10...

I don't care who the coach is...

Holy friggin .... I really had not looked that closely. That is a God awful statistic! That really explains a lot. Unfortunately, there are people here on VN who will read this and still continue their rants.

Most fans have no idea how bad the roster was when CDD took the job.

I hope that people can just chill out and give him another year to finish what he has started.

I understand a lot of people don't believe he is a good coach, but I will argue with anyone about his ability to recruit.

A great roster makes a lot of coaches look smart.

We have been irrelevant since 1st game of 2008 and CDD and his staff have somhow been able to bring in the best 3 consecutive recruiting classes in over 10 years.

Why do people assume Top 15 is good enough? There's a MAJOR difference between top 5 (Alabama, LSU, Florida) and top 15.

Based on your years of expertise & long term studies? Not exactly horrible either as some of you keep errantly implying. Talent is here. Now we see if the coaching is here with it.

Have to win big games to get in the top 5.

That's because most people confuse their uninformed opinion with facts.

IMHO, 8-4 with a win over USCe, Bama, or UGA will be viewed differently from 8-4 going 0-4 vs the best 4 teams on the schedule. I don't want a loss vs MSU or Mizzou but would trade that for a signature win that tells recruits and most fans that things are looking up. Lose to all four of those teams and you prove nothing other than you've become a 2nd tier team.

You have some validity, but a loss to a lesser team gives so much fuel for negavols, it would ruin any win.

I fully agree with sjt18. A loss to anyone is going to fuel the negavols. Missouri and MSU are not really lesser teams, though I feel we should beat Mizzou at home. Continually losing to UF, UGA, USCe, and Bama fuels the negavols as much as a loss to anyone left on our conference schedule outside of UK and Vandy.

You're splitting hairs in the difference between ranks 10-15 in recruiting. When you factor in a lack of attrition over several years and the ability to build classes every year consistently- that's when you're going to develop a program.

hey...how bout them blue raiders lol

I got a dang speeding ticket while coming back thru GA while listening to that stupid game. I was trying to get back home in time to watch UT/GA from a trip. Made it back but that ticket is costing me too many dollars. Had my attention on GT / MTSU instead of my speed.

You know how tough it is on the mind with the D of UT and GT? Sucks!

But, got to love my Falcons and Braves!

That is how Spurrier recruited USCe into relevance. He had year after year of good three star players, without gaps in any positions. Then he managed to recruit some top talents who could show out on a solid team.

Told the AJC he's going to OV UGA.

Nation’s No. 1-ranked JC player will visit UGA

What’s next for Johnson? He has scheduled an official visit to Ole Miss for Nov. 24. He hasn’t set up any other trips yet but said he was being recruited the hardest by UGA, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Miami and Ole Miss.

“I think I want to go to places that I’ve never seen before,” Johnson said. “I’ve never been to California so I might end up going to USC. I’ve never been to Florida so I might end up taking a visit to Florida or Miami. I want to go to places that I probably won’t ever see. I’m hoping to take all five visits.”

Johnson also stated that he does not have a leader or a timeline on reaching his college decision. “I really don’t have a date set. When I feel like it’s time to commit, I’m just going to do it.”

Sounds to me like he already knows where he is going, and he wants to use his OVs as mini-vacations to see places he may not ever get to see. Hopefully Knoxville is the place where he already knows that he is going for the next 2 years.

That's exactly how it read to me. I hope the Hutchinson connection gets him to Knoxville when its all said and done.

LOL at the AJC playing the conspiracy theory game with CP-Staley. Hard for them to imagine a player turning down Georgia. UT knew of him in HS and was after him from day one, so it had nothing to do with the years we have been recruiting CP up until Signing Day or Worley.
