'13 FL RB AJ Turman (UGA commit)

While I agree, I think you're downplaying the importance of having VERY good talent at the 3 and 4 spots. Elite 1 and 2 is good, but below average 3 and 4 hurts us. Having maybe an elite 1 and a great 2 3 4 will make our situation close to as good as our current one. Assuming of course our freshmen reach their potential.

I agree it is very important. That is why losing Rogers and Arnett were such huge blows. I still cant believe people downplayed losing either, especially Rogers. It just shows how idiotic and uninformed some people really are when it comes to football. This would have been a completely different WR unit with those two guys added to the equation.

OL in two years could have Tiny (if he stays) sanders. Marcus Jackson and Koehler. That's a potentially great base to build around. In the other spot and for depth you have fourth year posey crowder and kerbyson.

Not bad

Yep, teams would pretty much have to stay in nickel just to have a chance. Having Rogers would win us one game by the end of the season I think. Pig Bowles and Croom will be as good as CP JH and ZRo, IMO, if they reach their potential. The top end won't be as high, but the bottom end will be MUCH better.

If we pull the RB's we expect, we won't need to rely on our receivers to out-talent their opponents. We're moving towards a more balanced attack. If we can get another stud TE watch out.

Tiny has a long way to go to get drafted. He has been a huge disappointment this year. He missed multiple blocks against Akron last week and cant even line up right half the time multiple false starts. He needs to get back on the bench and move Dallas back to LT

I agree. And I think we've cast a wide enough net that someone is going to end up being very special for us. We don't need them all to be stars, but we need someone to. North is that kind of guy.

You haven't been watching the same games I have. This is BS. Crazy talk.

I agree. Especially when it will come to the offensive line. There will definitely be a drop off at WR among the #1 and #2 guys. This is a special 1-2 punch at WR and it would be really bad if this is another disappointing season with talent like that. WR depth might be better in a couple years but they wont have near the talent at their #1 and #2 WR spots.

I think theres a give and take with the newer group of wr. I for one am hoping for a more rounded group of wr, ones who dont mind blocking downfield. Bowles looks to have the body size and attitude that takes all aspects to being a wr as serious. Better downfield blocking and we get longer runs

Arnett would be nothing in this league. He did right to go back home to Big Ten land. A kid like Pig Howard is what we need in the slot.

I don't agree with Arnett being nothing in this league. He could play as a true freshman. He'll only get better.

I disagree that he was a huge loss though. We recruited to make up for him leaving. I hope to see more Pig Howard and less Zach Rogers.

A lot of if's, though.

And our QB won't be better in two years, the line will be less talented, no star receivers, and no TE's.

The only thing "better" would be RB. And probably WR depth.

You must didn't read my post entirely. Also I guess Brendan Downs will be the only TE on campus for the next two years.

QBs: Do you think our QBs have to have Bray's arm strength to win? Because there are plenty of QBs that were winners with weak arms.

RBs: A good RB can take all the pressure off the passing attack. A good trio can punish a defense.

WRs: Howard(special player), Bowles, Croom, and Blanc would face less double coverage with us running the ball effectively.

OL: I said in my post they were the key. It would depend on how they came together. But I guess you didn't read that far.

One position, on offense, I think we really need to hit on this year and next is OL. Our current starters, minus Tiny & Fulton, lack the nasty streak that great run blockers have.

If we wiff on our OL recruits, it's not going to matter how great our skills position players are b/c receivers won't get the ball because the QB will be on the turf and the RBs won't gain yardage b/c running lanes won't be there.

The problem here is you have to convince the OC of that.

Not disagreeing with you there, MH. I'm ready to see TN move to a true pro-style offense, with the double tight sets and so forth, that Dooley talked about when he first came in. Something like what Stanford has run the past few years. That's a program with philosophies that I view as similar to what Dooley wants, from recruiting, coaching, etc.

We lost the ability to do this when Clear got kicked off the team.

Right, which was a real shame. To clarify, I meant moving forward, as in next year. To be honest, I'm not even sure if that is a possibility next year either with the way things are going for Meredith. I guess the H-back role will become more important.

With Clear, you would have seen a lot of 2 TE sets with Rivera being the man in motion.

Would have been a nightmare for defenses. Oh well.

I think Downs being back last week helped our run game as much as anything else though...with a true TE in the game the defense has to protect the edge and can't just send extra backs inside, we'll run well this week too.

I agree with the qb part especially. Perfect example. Would you rather have kellen Moore or bray? Bray is a better talent but Moore is a pure bred winner. You don't always need the best qb to win. Look at bama and lsu. Their guys are usually good leaders who just don't make mistakes.

Downs is solid. We need to continue getting him and Rivera the ball.

SN: Is Turman an early enrollee? I know Green is. Would be great to get them both on campus in January.

Any Vol targets in Athens that you could see him recruiting for us? I thought I read that Bell and Kamara might make it up for the game.
