'13 FL RB AJ Turman (UGA commit)

I'm not a recruiting insider but I'm pretty sure losing doesn't HELP. It might not hinder our efforts as some may claim but completely dismissing it as if its nothing is RIDICULOUS.

It hurts. Plain and simple.

I'm literally amazed by how many people in this forum fail to acknowledge that...I mean wasn't Von Bell, Derrick Green, Henry, et al waiting to see us win a big game???

Don't spin it...just admit that losing was an obstacle. It CAN be overcome but it WAS NOT a "good thing."

My point is simply that whether we won or lost to Florida does not affect recruiting (positively or negatively) much, if any. Now, if we lose a lot of games this year (5 or 6) then that will have a negative impact only because Dooley will likely get fired. The atmosphere made a great impression on the recruits. Coaches feel good about Henry (which I've never understood), Turman is on board whenever we accept his commitment, Wilson is a Vol, Miles and his dad loved Knoxville and commented on the "atmosphere," and the '14 recruits were impressed. The atmosphere also helped seal the deal with Hubbs (5-star bball commit).

I would say that if Turman wanted to be a Vol,he would not be turned away. I would hope not.

Super...

I'm glad we are putting our eggs in the basket of an athlete that nobody knows if he will outgrow his position.

Turman is coming back for the Bama game...for another unofficial visit. He's ours if we want him. Making him wait is irrelevant.

No spin..... After seeing our backs in action he now knows for sure he has a chance to come in and start as a freshman.
Neal had a descent game but he is not a big time explosive back.
RB is the weakest part of our offense and the recruits saw that.

It looks like we're not taking his commitment until Henry and/or Green make their decision.

sounds like FSU with Turman also. They are waiting on Collins and Bryant atp. If UT waits too long AJT could end up in Athens after his OV there.

UT needs to accept this verbal now. We need hard backs like this for games like Saturday. We need a crew of backs that will punish a defense.

IMO it's never a good idea to make a kid who has several options wait. If he were a local kid with ties to the school, that is a different story. We need RB's in a huge way. I do recall someone saying Green & Henry have both been told they could be the only back taken in this class if they wanted to be. Awful risky waiting on those 2 when they have always had someone OTHER than Tennessee as their #1.

Thing is, if you take Turman, it could put off Green or Henry. While we as fans think there is hardly any shot at those 2, the coaches who are actively talking to these kids all the time feel otherwise.

Neal had ran the ball pretty well imo. He's a confusing RB at times(maybe he reads VN) bc a few plays where he was stuffed inside he had a lane to kick it outside but ran straight line into the pile of linemen. For all his speed he never really tried to make guys miss vs Fl. I also think Chaney(?) gave up on the run early on a few drives and esp in the second half. Neal best runs came on spread plays or with a FB/Hback leading the way but that vanished in the second half..think UT ran the ball under 10 times in 2nd half.

He's fast, not elusive.

and his spindly legs wont allow him to kick out of tackles by DBs.

he had a few plays where it was one guy to beat, just make a guy miss or break a tackle...

and it didnt happen.

If you put Montario Hardesty on this team, Sheeeeesh

You saw the few run plays where a RB has to take over. He had some plays where he should've bounced outside and gashed Florida. I think we need to watch the 49ers play a bit more on offense. Would be ideal with our personell I think. A true power pro-style offense would make this offense hell. But we are who we are. Also HG your boy LP didn't impress me much nor did your secondary as a whole. I do like #34 he's a damn man. Boy was the key to your defense. Going to be a hell of a game next year when those slow CBs we have aren't starting. Waggner should've had two picks if he was faster. Bonner and D.Gray will be a nasty combo whenever they take over.

I saw that too. He had a chance to go for 150 easy if he could've broke around 2-3 tackles. He also doesn't run with his eyes as much as I would've expected.

Like I said before, You can bring in the greatest RB coaches ever, and it doesnt matter.

If you dont have an instinctual RB with Vision and natural ability there is nothing to coach up.

Either you have it as a RB or you don't

Very true..... some things can't be taught, some kids are just born with the gift of unbelievable talent.
