Students Coming Out in Force

Join the band....they always have a seat. :) I loved not having to worry about a ticket the four years I was there! Go Vols!!!

Haha confession time. I am typically too...um..."confused" at gametime that I can never find my actual seat so I sit in the few rows that are always empty behind the band. Awesome seats and I don't have to worry about the girls with me talking over the game.

Maybe they should give priority to the students who attend the Ga. State game. Why are 13,000 plus not demanding tickets for every game?

it sounds bad but to be honest not as many people want to watch a blowout where the game is over in the 1st quarter. The diehard fans will be at all of them, but the semi-fans will only go to the intense rivalry games.

I was sad that I wasn't a student this year, but at least this means I'll still be able to sit with my dad at the game. If I were, he wouldn't be able to come!

Oh, hell to the no.

I am a starting Grad student here, been here for four years as an undergrad, and have gone to as many games as I could. Being in the masters program, I am remarkable swamped with reading and papers. Therefore, I am using this weekend to get my work done so that I can enjoy the Florida game to the fullest.

And no need to give the whambulance a call, I'm not looking for pity. Just saying that, even though I won't be going to the Georgia State game, that doesn't mean I shouldn't get priority for the Florida game. I REFUSE TO MISS THAT GAME.

I agree with the other guy. What a selfish way to think. They shouldnt give priority to Ga State ticket holders because you have HW? No. It rewards the students who have gotten their work done during the week (or made the decision to not do it, the most likely) in order to go to the GA State game and suffer through that massacre.

I've always thought this was a dumb argument. Games take what? 3 hours? Is that really going to affect your ability to do your homework on the weekend?

Student Vol Fans,
As of this afternoon, we've recieved requests for over 13,000 tickets for the UT-UF game! This request exceeds the number of tickets available in the student section.

Per our established process for games in which our demand exceeds the number of tickets available, guest tickets WILL NOT be assigned to your account tomorrow.

We did not encounter this level of demand for any home games last year. As a result, many students may not be aware of this part of the ticket process.

The process places priority on allowing as many students as possible to be in attendance at our biggest games. If you requested to sit as a group with other students, you will still be assiged to sit with that group of students.

Get excited for a full student section in one week!

They used to do this. I don't know why they stopped.

I don't remember exactly the point numbers, but this is how the system worked:

you started off the year with a certain number of points, based on class. Seniors got 9 points, Juniors 6 points, etc.

Then each game you went to throughout the year, you got another point or so.

So seniors that went to every game had the highest priority in the lottery by the end of the year.

At that point, no games were selling out, so this was for seating priority. Then the year after I graduated they went to a system where instead of starting out with points based on class, you started out with like half the points you had from the year before.

If they stuck with that system, then you would start out building up points your freshman year, and the more games you went to throughout your time at the University, the more points you could have by your senior year.

I liked that system, but I don't know if they still do it.

Since FL sent back a bunch of tickets, you would think they would consider giving some of those out to students...

Anyone know when the last time the student section sold out? I don't remember it happening any time during my time in school since 2004 or so, but I may just have missed the email. I didn't request guest tickets all that often.

Atrocious. Only 13k seats for the folks who pay tuition, room&board, "Maintenance" fees, you get it. If every damn student wants to be at that game, every damn student should have a ticket with their name on it.

Though I agree with you on this point, the University won't. They up tuition because they know people will continue to pay to come here. They will keep the student section the same size for the same reason. They know that if a student REALLY wants to go to the game, he or she will either get lucky and get the $10 ticket or will pay scalpers, face value, etc to get in.

Its all about money, so allowing all students that want to go to the Florida game to go would be counter-productive and totally out of character.

Why??? Cause something like this very rarely happens? I see your point but I believe I pay my tuition, room &board, pay $1000 for season tickets and travel two hours to every home game, not sayin your wrong but if there is that big of a demand, let them camp out and see who REALLY wants to go! But good point either way, I go to a school in TN not UT but I myself would even go camp out for mine if I had to lol

I read the email to mean that students would get tickets but they wouldn't get any guest tickets. In other words, their parents or non-student friends/relatives would have to buy a regular ticket, but students would still get theirs and still get to sit with their friends. Is that what everyone is so upset about?

Is that what PLARS is griping about? When he says "the people paying the tuition..." won't get tickets, does he mean the parents?

It's certainly ambiguous, but if more students requested than 13,000, which is implied, then some students aren't going to get tickets.

Yes! And to hell to all the donors who make the AD work. Who needs the millions donated. Do away with the VASF and we'll see just how long the students will carry the program.

Or the people who donate to pay for scholarships? Or the people who donate to build the buildings they sleep in or get educated in?

Amazing. I have no problem if UT gave them more tickets but what about this weeks game? Or the Akron game? If the students really give a damn then where is the demand for those tickets? And mark my word, if we lose to UF the student section will once again not be an issue.
