Jerry Falwell dies.............

Yes, I am sure Christians are really holding back your enjoyment of life.

Christians have no affect on the enjoyment of my life. I am, however, a little dis-pleased that a few of my fellow friends are succumbed into something that I wish could better explain, by myself, in order to show a proper view of my perspective on Religion. (edit to add:) Then, only could I find out if we have to learn not to speak of Religion, unless transfering facts, or to carry on with my stance. That, of course, would only persist if they seemed interested. Otherwise, nothing can be made from the topic. I'm too incompetent.

Actually, they are. The putrid state of network television is directly related to executives choosing not to push artistic envelopes for fear of puritanical backlash.

Maybe, maybe not but I will grant you TBN is one of the worst stations on TV and wouldn't turn there if I was held at gun point.

You are free to buy cable, rent movies, or whatever else. So no, they are not. And if your enjoyment of life revolves around how good TV shows are, you are probably not enjoying life to that great of an extent.

The use of the public airwaves should not be dictated by the whims of religious zealots. That's how they do business in Iraq and Iran. I didn't say my life revolved around the quality of network television. However, I don't think the fact I enjoy well done art, be it televison, cinema, music, or theater is indicative of any vacuum in my life.

Not being a smart a-- truely asking. The FCC regulates stuff, are they backed by the far right or something?

I think the public airwaves are dictated by the FCC, not religious zealots. I think some people give way too much credit to religious zealots.

Well not every president is on the right (obviously) so what happens when a dem appoints the head of the FCC?

I'm quite certain the majority of people who flooded the FCC with complaints about how much mental anguish Janet Jackson's breast caused them, resulting in multimillion dollar fines for CBS, spend their Sunday mornings at the altar.

You certainly don't end up with networks getting fined millions of dollars because some rube in Independence, Kansas fears the sight of Janet Jackson's breast will result in the downfall of American culture.

As quoted in a Familiy Guy episode. They must have received four calls complaining and the networks knows each call equals a billion people. So simple math tells us that must have been four billion people offended. The shame.

I think it might. They should have been fined for showing such a sorry excuse of a breast.

That also depends on how you looked at the wording, when you said effect on your life- that could be represented to anyone reading- so, that could stand for a whole mass of people. That is where you do get an effect on enjoyment, which then, the effect, as I'm sure (Hat, or anyone for that matter) has said earlier results in the denouement of the community. If you don't see how that may effect someone's life, whether it be from happiness, to enjoyment to whatever it may have denied at some point, then we're not going to get anywhere. A lot of that would be due to the public acceptance, the media garbage and the consistent upbringing of the subject in our daily lives (i.e. National Anthem, moment of silence (this occurs daily in my life)).

Please tell me that made sense, my current state of mind isn't exactly considered the norm. :)

Yes, and I am sure this put CBS on the brink of bankruptcy and probably completely altered their strategy for every future show they had in the works. You will never see gay people on tv, premarital sex scenes or drug use. It is practically Andy Griffith on the airwaves 24/7. Again, some people give the religious zealots more credit than they have earned.

Gotta be honest it didn't make a lot of sense.

What is the problem with gay people, premarital sex, and drug use being depicted on television? Should art not reflect the realities of the society where it is created?

Where did I say it was a problem? I was referring to the point that the religious zealots have a stranglehold on the public airwaves. These points were merely brought up to show they don't. If they did, you would not see these things on TV.

Yes, "zing". Ask someone how religion in this country has impacted or restricted their enjoyment of life and you get "TV". Zing!
That's just one example. The Christian Coalition and their ilk engaging in groupthink voting and helping elect candidates based on their views of non issues like abortion, gay marriage, and the teaching of intelligent design has lessened the quality of every Americans' life by helping put rubes and hayseeds intellectually unfit to be a City Council person in Newport, Tennessee in our Congress. Luckily, it appears the voting public has arisen from their slumber and has begun purging those mental cripples.
