NC State fans.......WOW

Well hope you don't mind a huge visitors section then.
Willy999, I'm not a huge x and o's guy, but I think pro style offense sums it up. When we first got our coach we were hearing "win the battle of the trenches", hard nosed running game, but we've had to rely on the pass to win anything the last couple of years. Our quarterback, Mike Glennon, was highly recruited out of highschool, but had to sit on the bench behind Russell Wilson for two years. Last season was his first one starting, and he did pretty well with the pressure he had. Over 3000 yards and not too many dumb decisions. As far as other playmakers on offense, we 2 returning running backs that were not great, but did the job, and behind a better oline should be much improved. We also are returning our best running back from two years ago, who was injured last season. Hoping he can be as good as expected. While are wide receivers aren't that experienced, Tobias palmer is very athletic and has shown some promise, and payton is not bad either. Expect a pretty pass happy offense though.

Just to make sure NCSU sees this.^

Ha yea I saw that. Recruiting is a constant complaint on our forum (Which is PackPride by the way, not pack insider which has like 100 members). The counter argument is Tom o'brien is very good at finding undervalued players and coaches them up pretty well. I guess it says even more about his coaching abilities. The man went to something like 9 or 10 bowl games in a row at Boston College, and has the Pack looking good the last couple of years. He's never been a good recruiter, but always finds talent (matt ryan, hassleback, keuchly, Amerson, Russell Wilson, Nate Irving)

Please give us a chance to prove ourselves...An invite to the SEC would be greatly appreciated :)

I would gladly trade you guys for ky or Vandy... I think we have lost what twice or three times in a combined like 60 games against them. I'm 30 and just saw ky beat us for the first time. Not football schools

I just want to know which of our WR's they will put Amerson on to cover since he is the player they never shut up about, at least for us we have four amazing players on offense they we never stop talking about.

He'll cover them all.....at the same time. Beast.

Sounds like both teams will be airing it out in the dome! Should be an exciting game thanks for the response and welcome to volnation!

NC State is probably not as bad as folks seem to think. IMO the Vols should win, but in case you want info on what UT will be up against in the game, here's a preview from Athlon:

I've been looking at this stuff a few times and believe NCSU isn't the pushover certain blinders wearing VOL fans think. We're better than last season but we're still not the Tennessee of old yet. What got my attention big time was a while ago I was roaming the net and came across how their players on their own are hitting the weights and stamina work in anticipation of being a better team this fall. I think mention was made of early morning jogs as well. Apparently, this has been a summer long thing with them. I haven't read anything about our boys using their entire summer to condition and strengthen themselves for the fall. A few items here and there about certain players but not what seems like nearly the whole team. I think mention was made that their S&C coach didn't really have to do much in terms of motivating them as they've been pretty much going at it on their own.

I tried finding that article again before posting this but gave up as I don't have too much time for that now. I'm configuring a new gamer notebook I'm going to use as a desktop replacement (DTR) computer. Massive 17lb thing with two 750GB 7200RPM HDDs, an i7 3610QM7 CPU paired with a 3GB nVIDIA GT 670M w/ Optimus GPU, and 16GB RAM which I will upgrade to 24GB as soon as the new memory modules arrive. As usual, Windows or driver software never quite allows trouble free installation and setup. Could have left the default stuff alone after getting it but not my style. I want certain things that make it optimum for viewing streamed Vols games via TV connection when I can't physically attend games. I'm so hyped for the fall I even shelled out extra bucks to have the white keyboard back lights changed to orange. Will take a night time picture probably tonight so the color scheme shows clearly and post it. Looking for an orange and white or orange and black mouse now to complement the notebook.

HEY, NCSU, do Wolfpack fans go to this extreme to show support for their team? If they have more sense than me for spending money this way, I understand but wonder how far some go. Crazy folks we Vols are, I think one guy has a giant orange painted elephant statue in his front yard. Probably a slap at Bama but I think it's the coolest idea I've ever seen.

every team in the country has been doing this all summer.

I've read these articles and they seem to indicate one time deal stuff as opposed to a daily routine. That's what I see as different between what I read about the Wolfpack and us. Not putting down my Vols but I haven't read anything about summer long, self-motivated, daily regimens. Very likely they are doing something along this line but I haven't read about it. Climbing a mountain once. Running at midnight once isn't what I'm talking about.

then do some searching on UT. They've been working hard all summer as have all teams in FBS. You're acting like this is new ground NCSU is breaking when it's just the same stuff as always. No one goes in summer workouts saying we are working to get weaker and slower.

Do you really not realize that summer workouts are nonstop and difficult for every team?

" You're acting like this is new ground NCSU is breaking when it's just the same stuff as always."

Thank you for the information and your advice despite the snide tone. Makes me remember a classmate from my college years. We were enrolled in the same class and he told me the best thing to do was never ask that particular teacher a question. Teach had a rep for insulting and humiliating anyone who dared to ask a question. Always wonder where that guy went, hmm.

My statement was I hadn't read about us doing anything similar, not that we weren't doing it.

I realize it, I just hadn't read about us doing it. maybe Cafeteria Lady will share some info on this beyond Neal lifting with the offense guys. Maybe the whole team or just all the RBs are doing that and more, I haven't read about it. Like many, I'm eager for any news on our team and despite the perhaps unintended snideness of utvolpj suggestion, I think I overlooked that source of possible info. I had peered into the area but hadn't seen anything about the entire team engaged in summer long strength and conditioning. I'd seen stuff on them building houses, visiting kids, one time outings but nothing on the entire team's regimen.
This doesn't mean they aren't doing it. I saw that article on the Wolfpack and went, "Hey! What're my Vols doing?" Then apparently made the severe error of mentioning that in the VN forum.

had summer class with tom smith and alden hill. tom was always talking about how much harder they have been working this summer than the previous. they want to win the sec

Thank you Willy999. The greatest thing about your post is the reiteration of Bray's statement we're aiming and expecting to win the SEC. It's wonderful seeing this attitude of the team and fuel to the desires of all Vols fans to see this team hit the field. They really sound like they have a fire in the belly which is pretty much what I said in another post elsewhere. Naturally, I'd love to read articles about stuff like this. Perhaps our so-called Knoxville sports writers are reading this and actually write some decent articles about our team. Anyway, again thanks for the post.

Too Long Didn't Read..... Sure it was very annoying as well.

Only 1 time in a century has state posted a double digit win season. WOW! The only edge these guys have on us is the secondary. Vols by 25

Weird, when I read the article all I saw was that state was top 20 in the FBS in both sacks and turnovers, has a senior laden Oline, and probably the best secondary in the ACC, with arguable one of the best corners in the country returning. Doubt you score 3 on us...Kinda hard to make an assessment based on one statement, which has absolutely no bearing on the success of this years team.
