Barnhart: Vols on right track says Dooley

I'm not so sure why people think he has some anti-Dooley agenda. I don't think he was ever a big fan of hiring Dooley, but his opinion of Dooley has simply fluctuated with his job performance.

Your words, not mine.

That's not what he said. He said 9-3 with a bowl win, which equals 10-3

He said 9-3. I said that should be on the low end of what is acceptable. I said that 8-4 (especially with losses to those 4 teams mentioned) shouldn't be acceptable, because it wouldn't really even be that great of an improvement.

I agree, but I think 9-3 would be par for the course. Tennessee is better than a minimum of 8 teams on the schedule, and that isn't addressing the fact that neither Florida or South Carolina is going to be special.

I honestly think this year may be as good as we'll get from Dooley.

I go back and forth on that. We'll likely lose the best passing combination we've seen in a decade, but the line and defense should do nothing but improve

I agree about 8-4, but going 10-2 would be a minor miracle

The schedule is also going to be much more difficult in 2013. Things could get a little bit better, but I don't think they're going to be substantially better than 2012.

Not really. The only team that is clearly superior to Tennessee is Alabama. Tennessee SHOULD beat Florida this year. I don't think it's unreasonable for Tennessee to beat South Carolina or Georgia. If the offensive line can push forward, Tennessee should have an elite offense.

I agree. The only way that 8-4 is an improvement is if Peterman has to start the second half of the season.

This squad, as is, is 9 or bust.

Fair point. Although it's not totally clear what we're doing with the conference schedule. Florida will improve and Oregon will be better than NC State. Not sure beyond that

They aren't mine, either. They've been said/strongly implied by many here.

Any discussion with an opposing viewpoint turns into hello Barbara or something about bamboo or shower talk, but yeah nothing suggests anything. No matter how you feel at least be objective, it makes the board fun.

Tennessee plays both those teams and Bama on the road, and all those teams will probably be better in 2013 than 2012. Georgia is eventually going to stop wasting their time with Richt and hire someone else. Florida will do the same with Muschamp if he doesn't win soon. The East is here for the taking, and we don't seem like we're going to capitalize on it.

He tries to make arguments. It just seems like a lot of people don't want to hear those facts.

Bama was 9-3 in 2010, how many of those teams were clearly superior to them?

The problem is almost all the arguments are about why we should just ignore what we've seen and not about why Dooley is the right guy for the job.

He hasn't shown a whole lot. However, injuries are significantly closer to a reason than an excuse.

1. Bama played a much more difficult schedule than UT will play this year.
2. The bye weeks of their opponents were brutal.
3. It was a 'rebuilding' year after two very successful years. It wasn't the peak.

Their roster was way better than ours, and my point was that their losses weren't good. Lsu is the only argument you can make for their losses.

If this Tennessee team played that schedule, Tennessee would probably need to sweep Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina to get to 9-3.

They are a reason for why UT has been bad. They aren't a great reason for why UT has been historically bad and they don't justify the regression of the running game, offensive line play, etc.

Well that's not quite fair. They didn't play UGA. But, supposing you trade out UGA with Arky, we'd only have to go 2-1 against those three to reach 9-3. Unless I'm forgetting someone
